Guest guest
After reading all about Francesca's cereal, I wanted to share my favorite convenient breakfast. It's NOT CR-optimum because it does have some added sugar and salt, but not that much. And I'm willing to deal with a little added sugar/salt in exchange for the convenience. It's a line of hot cereals made by Fantastic Foods. They come in little cups you just add hot water to. There are several flavors -- Cranberry Orange Oatmeal, Banana Nut Barley, Maple Raisin Three Grain, Wheat and Berries -- all use whole grains. As an example, I happen to have a cup of the Banana Nut Barley sitting in front of me this morning. The ingredients include the following: Organic Rolled Whole Barley, Evaporated Sugar Cane Juice, Organic Cracked Barley, Pecans, Dried Bananas, Sea Salt, Natural Flavoring. Total calories - 170, Fat - 2.5g (none saturated), Sodium-240mg, Fiber-6g (22% of RDA), Sugars-12g. It's not the perfect breakfast, but it is very easy to make when you're in a hurry (you can even take it into the office and add hot water there) and it's a tasty way to get some fiber. My favorite quick breakfast if I have a little bit more time at home is the One Egg Veggie Omelet. Take one egg (I use Omega-3 enriched eggs), whip with a little milk, and put it in a small skillet (nonstick, or spray with a little oil). As the egg is cooking, layer generously with spinach, mushroom, garlic, salsa - whatever you like - add some spices (I like basil). When done, fold it over, omelet style. This breakfast, when made with 1 large egg, 3 leaves of spinach, 3 mushrooms, and 2 T salsa comes out to 129 cals -- 9g protein, 7g fat, 8g carbs. AND, according to DWIDP, you get 62% of RDA of Vit A, 43% of Vit C, 18% of Vit E, 49% of Folactin, 42% Riboflavin, and respectable amounts of copper, iron, B-12, Niacin, Pantothotic Acid, and Selenium. _________________________________________________________________ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx
Guest guest
I don't know how acceptable this is for CRON. However, I will throw it out and you can analyze it. But I find it very convenient and also satisfying until my next meal. I slightly toast 1 slice of Multi Grain Bread..spread 2 T. of non fat cottage cheese on it and then top with no more than a half tsp of all fruit jelly (I use seedless blackberry because for me it has the strongest flavor and a little dab as they say will do you).
