Suz: It seems to me that vinegar (which also kills a wide variety of molds

and microbes) would work if bleach or peroxide sounds too far out for you.

Vinegar is a wonderful product with lots of uses. I also spray it around my

kitchen when ants start parading around. Works like a charm.

Vinegar and water is also a handy fruit and veggie " washer " - much cheaper

than the expensive fruit and veggie washes that they sell.

I use regular milk, but I believe the kefir grains are primarily interested in the lactose (sugar) and not the fats... so Nike out.

PS... I don't bleach my seeds before sprouting, but do put new shipments in the freezer for a few days to kill insects or other hitch hikers...
