Guest guest
All, Today's Scientific Journal Science has an article " Biomarkers of Calorie Restriction May Predict Longevity in Humans " Vol 297, August 2, 2002 Page 811. It discusses linking biomarkers in the Rhesus Monkey study and the Baltimore Longitudial Study of Aging (BLSA) which. I shows some simple bar graphs on CR and control Monkeys for body temp, insulin, and DHEAS (which decreases in humans and monkeys as they age and may be a biomarker of aging). It also shows BLSA data for these three biomarkers. Briefly, BLSA men were separated into upper and lower groups depending what their Biomarkers were (example, those with higher body temp were grouped in the higher cat). These men were not on CR but exibited " CR biomarkers. Bottom line is the survival curve (up to 25 years) for the BLSA study was higher for the lower body temp, lower insulin, and higher DHEAS groups which is exactly what the Rhesus monkey indicates. Therefore the Rhesus monkey results appear to have a direct correlation to humans, as far the biomarkers go. THe article does note that the Rhesus monkeys on CR have half the mortality rate as the control animals but this may not be statistically significant yet.
