Perfect menu--spreadsheet

***That's actually where I was headed when I started this whole deserted island thread. I've been working on an Excel spreadsheet for myself that would simplify and clarify my daily food selections to assure that I'm including the most nutrient-rich foods as possible while remaining in my calorie range. In other words, there are many foods that I feel I should include in my diet every single day (i.e. something cruciferous, something citrus, some kinda "berries", something dark leafy green, something calcium-rich, etc. etc.) I've devised a spreadsheet for myself and am playing with it still before I share it with the group. For example, on the row for "something dark leafy green" I have listed such vegies as spinach, kale, beet greens, etc., and the idea would be to check off at least one of those each day. There's also a rough calorie estimate built into it so you can total-up as you go along for the day. So far it's really quite handy if not fun, and helps me get OUT of habitual patterns of eating the same menu everyday, which is actually simpler but probably not as nutritious. The desert-island-perfect-food query was actually intended to ferret out the group's thoughts on those most important "gotta-have-them-everyday" foods.

So when the spreadsheet is a little further along, I'll present it to the group for more specific input. I've really been enjoying this project, whether it will actually be useful to anybody or not.

Hi Suz and All,

Another good food, although not something I'd rely on as my _only_ food,

is macadamia nuts. They are the best plant source of fat, have an

especially high ratio of MUFA's (monounsaturated fatty acids), and have some

protein and other goodies. You, or some one else, could check up on DWIDP

for specifics. Also, in one of Dr. Barry Sears' books (something like " Top

100 Zone Foods), and in Wolfe's (a raw food enthusiast) book " The

Sunfood Diet Success System " , macadamias are listed as a top food.
