Support List members have discovered a better sweetner: xylitol. Credit goes I believe to Mambo Mambo who first informed us. Xylitol not only sweetens, it's also an antibacterial, builds bones, and enhances dental health.. In Europe, studies have shown that schoolchildren who use xylitol get sick less than those who don't. Search our archives for previous discussions on xylitol. Specifically here are some posts that explain more: /message/1223 /message/4232 /message/4341 /message/4369 Check the Member's recipes file/folder for sourcesand don't forget to check " links " for many xylitol sites (thanks to Iris) that also give more information and sources. I'm switching to xylitol as soon as my present stash of sucralose is used up. MM and Iris are the experts on the best sites. So I'll ask them. Is the xylitolnow site the best of all the ones in the files/links??? Or is there a better one? on 9/10/2002 10:45 AM, Seedman at beyondreach@... wrote: > Can someone help me with my quandry over the " effective " difference, if > any, in these two? > > If sucralose is superior, where can it be obtained? > > Thanks for the help. I've used xylitol gum, mints and the granulated form - the Xlear brand. It's expensive to use in place of sugar and you can't use too much of it at a time - or you will get diarrhea. I made pumpkin custard with it once and you could only eat 4 oz of sweetened custard a day safely. It has a lot of the same effect on the digestive system as sorbitol. I really like the mints and the gum. They maximize the benefits for the teeth. It's also possible to use it to sweeten tea or coffee. It's not practical to replace a cup of sugar in a recipe with xylitol the way you can use splenda.
