Guest guest
I was thinking about this study in the back of my mind when I was considering if CR is really worth it. With maximum lifespan extension a longshot, and with the potentiality of side effects, it seems sometimes to be an overwrought manner to extend life. But these guys are showing that " cleaning " up your life gives you another freakin' decade! That's rather impressive for something that could be considered " baby CR " . Maybe human lifespan *is* as malleable in the face of caloric intake as the rodent data would suggest. It would be difficult to pinpoint whether or not they might be benefitting somewhat from CR, in that do exhibit quite a bit of rectitude concerning their diet, as do the Okinawans. However, they do not seem to be overly concerned with calories per se, but with maintenance of an optimal physique through any manner, including exercise. This might serve as a powerful argument against pushing CR too far, since so much benefit can be abstracted from " traditional " health interventions. Or, alternatively, it might serve as just a tantalizing " appetizer " for rigorous CR, in that if 10 years can be added by simply living an Adventist lifestyle, than what could be accomplished with the cumulative physiologic and genetic changes evoked by a CR diet? As always, more questions are often revealed with novel findings than answers. But the one thing that is quite certain is that making changes from the SAD diet we all practiced a long time will have benefit, and to proactively choose a SAD diet in the face of this understanding is to " want to die " , which indicates an individual is " more messed up in the head " than even the most rabid CR zealot. crdude35768@...
