Guest guest
By the way I am perfectly aware it is not the whole osteo story but what are peoples opinions with regard to getting enough calcium. I was trying to get it from diet before because of what Walford said about calcium supplements " exerting a partial suppresive effect on bone remodeling wheras the calcium in milk does not " (BY120YD p133) but have since heard that nonfat cheese and even milk and so forth may not be good sources of calcium after all due to acid balance. I'm inclined to pop pills and get it from diet now for the sake of pure redundancy, darn it! . If you pop pills what should the calcium/magnesium ratio be? 2 (calcium) to 1 (magnesium)? Yes I know I ought to search the archives or something but heck far less important issues often get far more airplay - so can't hurt to ask ... sorry :|
Guest guest
I think the issue is really phosphorus : calcium ratio, which is not particularly favorable in milk. The SAD is too high in phosphorus, and thus depletes calcium, since they are eliminated together. Soft drinks contribute to this because they use phosphoric acid. The last time I checked, only 7 Up didn't - it used citric acid instead.
