Guest guest
For those of you who take fish oil as an omega 3 fatty acid supplement, or are considering doing so: There have been some posts regarding 2 brands of fish oil that have recently become available. The fish oil capsules available at health food stores have been very disappointing. Almost all of them have demonstrated a certain degree of rancidity. Good fish oil should be clear in the gelatin capsule encasing them. Poor quality fish oil will start to shows signs of sedimentation within the capsule. Good fish oil does not have a strong fishy taste nor odor. It has a pleasantly mild taste and odor. Also, good fish oil should not " stay with you " for a long time after ingestion, by causing " repeating " or " fish burps. " (Sorry for the poor etiquette). The two recently available products are: 1. Omega Brite (www.OmegaBrite.com). The serving size is 3 capsules, containing a total of 15 calories, 1.5 g fat (polyunsaturated, as expected of an omega 3 supplement), no cholesterol, 3 IU vitamin E, 1,125 mg EPA (eicosapentanoic acid), 165 mg DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), 90 mg of other omega 3 fatty acids, 60 mg of omega 6 fatty acids, and 60 mg of " other " fatty acids. It's 7:1 ratio of EPA to DHA, is based on (per the box) " the latest scientific research and the clinical experience of leading doctors. " 2. Dr. Sears OmegaRX. (product can easily be found by using a good search engine like www.google.com) Serving size is 2 capsules. Total calories 20, 2 g fat per serving, no cholesterol (per my call to the company--this info. is not listed on the bottle), EPA 800 mg, DHA 400 mg. Has vitamin E--amount not listed. The vitamin E is the last ingredient, and a guess would be that a small amt. is used, perhaps 1-5 IU. Happily, both of these are of superb quality. They are both pharmaceutical grade fish oil, several levels of quality above standard health food store fish oil. They both have a mild, pleasant odor and taste. The oil within the capsules is absolutely clear. And this fish oil will not " stay with you. " I've tried very many brands of fish oil, and these 2 are incomparably better than all the others. These 2 brands are the only brands that I have been unable to detect even a trace of rancidity in. I would never go back to the standard health food store fish oils. You just have to try these two products to see what superior quality they have. I can't recommend one over the other, as both are excellent. I'll probably stay with both brands, and use each brand every other day.
