Guest guest
GUM: First I wonder if anyone on the list knows of any chewing gum sweetened with sucralose? I chew quite a bit of sugerless gum (to avoid eating out of *boredom*! mostly) and I might as well chose one that will be as healthy as possible over a lifetime. SODA: What causes soda to send you blood sodium low - the phosphorus, am I right? Anyway, when this soft drink discussion first came up on the main list (though I'm not yet perfect with ON yet) I was *shocked* that any cronie would consume soda!! I mean if soda is not the ultimate epitome of absolutely worthless food ... then what is? Even most junk food has more nutrition ... Even sugerless soda would contain excess phosphorus and be bad for ones bones, I thought. I used to consume a lot of sugery soda but had starting cutting down and then gave up all soda cold turkey when I got my DEXA (oh i've slipped a few times since then but basically I avoid the stuff like the plague ). Anyway before I posted my " common sense " thoughts on soda pop to the main list a little but menancing voice came in my ear and said: " search the archives " (oh ugh the archives! ). So I *did* and it turned out this discussion *was* actually on the archives for the main list and that phosphates in soda may not be as bad for your bones as I had thought! This discussion takes place in in a thread called 'safer forms of tabacco': http://lists.calorierestriction.org/cgi-bin/wa?S2=crsociety & X=- & q=safer+forms+of+tobacco & s= & f= & a= & b= Still IMO soda - blah who needs it? Even for the caffeine in soda there are better sources ... But caffeine who needs that either? Since I wasn't even trying to restrict calories before (although I was thin) I wonder if my poor DEXA was purely caused by calcium deficiency and could have so easily been prevented.
