Guest guest
I am considering trying a SSRI with my 8yo AS dd. We experimented with 5-HTP for a period, but it was expensive and I had a hard time trying to be consistent with it. At first it reduced hyperactivity, but beyond that I don't know if it was helping. In the last six months there has been a gradual regression in the areas of social anxiety, pain sensistivity/recovery time and general coping in small groups. I am not sure exactly the reason, maybe just winter. My husband and I have been very anti-medication. However, my dd is very different at home than she is during our (limited) homeschool activities during the week. It is hard for my husband to understand how hard it is to just get through the week without many problems. Right now she uses enzymes and minerals and her diet is restricted with artificials. TIA for any experience or ideas. Serena
Guest guest
Hi Serena, I know exactly how you feel. In the fall my daughter's anxiety and obsessing got so bad we could hardly get through the day without constant questions and upsets. We have been anti-med too because we tried them in the past with limited success and sometimes not good reactions. However, we had never tried Zoloft. We started enzymes and they did help with some issues but not the anxiety and obsessing, so we started Zoloft. So far we have seen a big reduction in anxiety and the constant obsessing about things, particularly her schedule. We are on about month 5 with the Zoloft and so far so good. It didn't do away with all the problems, but it did help her cope better. My daughter is 13 and is really adult size so she takes 50 mg a day. Unless we see a change we will be staying on the Zoloft because she is so much less stressed both at home and at school. Of course every child is an individual. What works for mine may not work for yours, but that is our experience. Zoloft, advice needed I am considering trying a SSRI with my 8yo AS dd.
