Guest guest
Lactose would meet Dr. Bihari's specification. It is a fine filler as long as the patient is not lactose intolerant. Larry J. Guest guest
I haven't posted for some time - a few 'puter problems kept me busy. Regarding lactose...it is a basic filler that is *almost* perfect - for the compounder. It is inexpensive, somewhat granular, flows easily, and packs well. However, many people have sensitivities (allergies too) to lactose. For those people the filler would pose a problem - sometimes severe. The vast majority of people handle lactose fine. But, folks with various chronic conditions seem to be generally more sensitive than the rest of the population. Also, some people may be sensitive (or become sensitive) and not be aware of it. They just feel uncomfortable whenever they take their capsules - and usually blame it on the active ingredient. We stopped using lactose filler a few years ago. Our LDN is compounded primarily with calcium carbonate. We also use a special filler we make with lactobacillus acidophilus, zinc oxide and magnesium stearate. This combination have been very successful for our patients. Please note that there is NO connection between lactobacillus and lactose. Larry J. Frieders,RPh |The Compounder575 W. Do any of you use this type of filler and if so how do you find it affects you? Good or bad stories anything will help. Many thanks. Guest guest
Hi Lorna, I used corn starch and the calcium consentrate as fillers, and didn't like them. A patient of Dr Bahari's and a friend of mine, told me to try Lactose filler. Dr Bahari uses it and he is lactose intollerant. He said that there is so little in the capsule, that it doesn't bother him at all. So now I use lactose filler, and have for the last 6 months....I've never been better. So try it....it's easy enough to change. BTW the stiffness is part of an initial SE of LDN, not the filler. I had stiffness on CC CS, but not lactose.
