Guest guest
>is this a new phenomenon? nope. It was reported early in the 20th century (can't remember where I read this, but it was in a medical journal) >is this another 'modern' affliction...? perhaps, but how could we ever know? there were so many names for diseases and the like long ago, and many were lumped under one or two - consumption, etc. >is it our diet? it is one particular molecule - salicylate - that our bodies react to. This is a natural organic compound made by plants to protect themselves. It is very similar in structure to other organic molecules (like tartrazine for example). Our immune systems have singled this chemical out to react to for whatever reason - no one really knows, or knows how/why the body responds in the way it does. They don't even know why desentising works, or how taking large doses of salicylate stops us from reacting... >is it a virus? no. but having a virus will tax the immune system and make us vulnerable and less able to cope with the myriad attacks by natural salicylate (perfumes, smells especially) and other asthma triggers (cold, air pressure change, pollens, food allergies, exercise, etc) >is it a bacteria infection? same as above. >is it an allergic reaction to airborne paticles like dust, pollen and >spores? same as above. during spring I used to be careful with salicylate intake as I knew I'd be more reactive overall. I don't have to worry now I'm desensitised. >>is it a damp environment? Damp environments usually upset the lungs and since we have asthma that can trigger bronchial symptoms. not really connected, but anything that triggers symptoms should be avoided >is it a cold dry environment? same as above. >is it a fungal infection? some folk get fungal infections. I don't know of anyone with both salicylate intolerance and fungal, but I guess it could happen. I've been told most sinus problems are because of fungal infections. Completely different treatment. >is it a combination of some of these things or all of them? Could well be for some people. >is it different foe every individual? THere are some strong common indicators and symptoms - hence the term 'syndrome'. My case was called oesinphilitus (I'm not sure of the spelling, sorry) - that is the oesiniphil cells (part of the immune response) go hay wire and produce bulk mucus - where ever they are in the body which is a lot of places. >why am i using a nose 'inhaler' when my nose is completely blocked >and the last thing i can do is inhale? it's a steriod treatment that reduces inflammation - that's the aim to reduce the inflammation so the nose isn't blocked. You will need to keep it up until you get relief. I find that when I'm totally blocked with polyps only extended courses of oral steroid do the trick, but only temporarily - surgery does it for sure. >who has some real answers? keep asking on this list. some of us have been playing this game for over 20 years... >it all seems so frustratingly inadequate... hopefully it will become clearer, though it definitely doesn't become less frustrating :-) >atleast its benign... for now. I know of one person whose condition stopped being benign and the polyps (which are benign tumours) became cancerous or cancerous ones grew as well. Also chronic and prolonged untreated sinusitus can lead to blindness... It's worth treating. My aim is for quality of life, not cure. I'm even prepared to not get back my sense of smell. I just don't want any more surgery. >As a result of my research, I decided that (for me) desensitization was the >only real answer. This is the way I'm going. My specialist is as keen to know what's going on as I am. >I agree that surgery seems wrong, and a lot of posters here agree the >benefit is short lived. It appears to be for samters folk, but for folk whose polyps are caused by other things it is hugely successful. One of my ENT surgeons was surprised my polyps returned - hadn't heard of samters - but that was ages ago. My GP knew about it - but then he was an allergic type himself. Sadly he died a few weeks ago, a victim of a guy backing his four wheel drive into him. Can people cut/snip their emails so the replies aren't so long? Guest guest
" Measuring is easy. I dont use water. I heard that it might lose some of it's potency if you leave it in water for too long. I learned how to make a 'spoon' that will hold 4.5mg. Every night I dump a spoonful in an ounce of water, then bottoms up. Someone else who does it this way says it starts going to work as soon as it hits the back of the tongue. :0)) " I'm a bit concerned because I read that the 50mg tablet can be in a time-release form, and that may be the source of some of the problems some people are having. I wouldn't trust it to my tongue. Apparently the effect on endorphin production is critically dependent on the dose being absorbed to your bloodstream all at once. -Sullivan
Guest guest
you can't use the 50 mg tablets. Pls. Go on to the site and read the slow release form section and the pharmacies. http://lowdosenaltrixone.org Pls. its the only thing Dr. Bihari says over and over again. The only problems people have with LDN it seems and I am trying to research all I can on the topic is because of the way it is dispensed. Guest guest
from the LDN website: >Low dose naltrexone prescriptions are generally filled at a compounding pharmacy. The druggist uses either generic naltrexone 50mg tablets or bulk naltrexone powder to prepare the LDN capsules.< looks to me like the Revia tabs are ok! Guest guest
You CAN use the Revia tabs, it is written several times on the LDN site that that is how some pharmacists make it. They crush up 50mg tabs. What the pharmacist needs to be careful of is to not mix it with a slow release filler. There are numerous people who use LDN by measuring it from 50 mg tabs, I'm not the only one who does this.
Guest guest
Great! Was getting worried I knew it had something to do with slow release. I think its the next paragraph though. Can you check incase. I don't use it but for you. Guest guest
if you're talking about this paragraph: >Because there have been occasional reports from patients of a poor quality product coming from scattered pharmacies, we feature the names of several pharmacies on the website that have shown themselves reliable and experienced in correct LDN preparation. (Please note: Under no circumstances should you accept a preparation of " long- acting " or " slow release " naltrexone.)< I would think it would be more aimed at those who get LDN compounded for them. Guest guest
I too had the L5-S1 fusion. I had it done March 17, 2004. It was successful. I had some pins and needles when I would sit to long. No biggy. I thought. Till last night.... I had gone grocery shopping. NO biggy. I've done it many times since my surgery. I am out of my back brace, have been since Mothers day. Well, I got lucky to have a nasty hag of a cashier.... she threw (YES THREW) bags of two liters of soda at me. Three at at time. I knew immediately I hurt, I screammed! Th e customer service manager came running over. She finished the order, and rebagged it. Took my money, and loaded it. I managed to get it out to the car, my son loaded it to the car, and I tried to bend to get into the car, and I couldn't. My back was in such spasms I couldn't. I couldn't feel my right foot for the pins and needles. They still are so damn intense. I actually have since cut it, and didn't feel it. My son saw the blood, that's how we knew I cut it. I had some bladder leakage... which I hadn't had. Someone had noticed me standing there by the car crying, and the csm came out asking what was wrong. So I told her. She asked if there was someone she could call or an ambulance. I had her call my dad. He took me to the ER. They xrayed, called my surgeon, and loaded me with morphine, and then told me they were keeping me. I said hell no. They called my surgeon. He said I could go home if I did this and that... So I'm to be laying down, no lifting, no twisting, no pushing, no pulling, no tugging, no straining, and no skipping my appt thursday. So I got my orders. LOL. So what am I doing? My son's loaded the washer, and that's going. I supervised him loading the dishwasher, that's going. I'm doing a quick check of the email.... other than that, it's gonna be laying down infront of the fan and dying day. Teri

Guest guest
Amber, Welcome to the group!!! I have five cats and they really help my struggle with depression (which I inherited and was diagnosed with at age ten). Although last night I climbed on the bed when I got home from work and they all jumped up with me...I thought it was because they missed me...turns out they were hungry. Go figure. Donna, I cannot BELIEVE you worked out the day after fainting. Hope your finger heal wuickly. I had a dumb injury to my thumb one time when I sliced open a tendon and vein trying to open a bottle of hair dye with a knife. Doh! Everyone... I am LOVING Fit TV. I haven't done Cathe yet. But I have done Gilad and Carribbean. I took my second Jazzercise class (, there was a guy there today so I guess its not exclusive to women). Its alot of fun. My fiend had a few free passes but once my money situation gets worked out I'll get five classes for $20 for a while. Still at least one month till Terry can move up. Miss him lots. I've been really busy the last few weeks so thats kept my mind off it. Guest guest
In response to message 4: I t is good that we have many substances in nature to help us relieve unusual episodes of stress and anxiety (like St. 's Wort, other herbs that increase our seratonin levels, others that have anti-stimulant effects and work in others ways), but all natural pills and/or substances have their drawbacks, and if we do not work on the underlying causes of unusual stress and/or anxiety and methods to help us handle and dissipate these conditioins within our own bodies (like deep breathing exercises, yoga, exercise, meditation, prayers, feedback techniques, EFT, focusing, etc), what we will tend to do is to get addicted or dependent upon these natural substances! And finally, they will not work as well for us, and may even start causing problems on their own. The unusual symptoms of stress/anxiety need to be looked at as the way the body is trying to get our attention, and to tell us that something needs to be addressed and changed in our lives for our highest good. And if the situation/condition that is triggering this response cannot be changed and we cannot remove ourselves from it, then the harder task of learning how to safely accommodate it with an attitudude change is being called for, and for this, we often need inner and outer guidance. Just embracing the dilemma is the first step; often, we want not to, and to take pills to make it go away. I am not saying that is so for your question, but it has been so for me.
