Guest guest
Jeff Isn't this also true of herbs? No proof. No clinic trials\have been conducted or approved by the FDA. It's mostly anecdotal. Most medical MD's know nothing about herbs and will not prescribe. The FDA does not approve of any herbs to my knowledge or establish any standards for the processing of the herbs. Dosage, quality, contaminates, etc., can very widely between processors. Herbs are imported from all over the world, many from China and the Amazon basin. We don't always know the conditions in which they are grown. Are heavy metals present? A doctor warned me to be very careful in taking herbs on a continuous basis. Herbs have been know to adversely affect the liver and kidneys. The FDA has approved the use of Naltrexone, but granted, not in small doses for off label use. Naltrexone is manufactured according to standards as required by the FDA. That's more that we can say for herbs. Something else to consider, as we speak, Pain Therapeutics has begun Phase III clinical trials of Naltrexone and Oxycondone for both efficacy, side effects and safety. I guess we pay our money and take our chances according to our intuitions. Hal
