There is usually little to fear from any of the "nuts". However, peanuts are NOT in the same family as other nuts. Peanuts are a legume (a bean). Some people can develop an allergy to almonds or cashews, (etc) but the numbers are low compared to peanuts. I've read that peanut allergies may run in excess of 5% of the population.

Marie- You have to try ALMOND BUTTER. It is delicious and better for you. You'll probably have to go to a health food store to get it, but well worth the trip!! Hope you like it. Marie Deady wrote:

I know that a lot of you have food allergies. I have a lot but two that really bother me are peanuts and sugar. I need to find a substitute for peanut butter. Does anyone know of something that can be eaten that is close to peanut butter without the peanuts and sugar. Actually any kind of spread. I bought a jar of soy butter. That is gross. I miss my peanut butter.HelpMarie

Whether one is allergic to peanuts may be a moot point. Peanuts are

renowned for exhibiting aflatoxin, a mold. And the ones not grown

organically are grown in fields alternated with cotton, which involves

highly toxic pesticides and herbicides. We are what we eat, and it

should be food that's " clean. " Our bodies are compromised enough

without having to make the liver work harder.--Martha
