Guest guest
My son is the same way. I am to the point I don't know what to do anymore. I'm in Ohio. _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Patti Sent: Sunday, January 22, 2006 1:38 PM Subject: ( ) Connie T. Dear Connie, I saw in another post that you have had success with AS kids in your commumity dealing with Rage and melt downs. We also are from Michigan about an hour and a half away from Ann Arbor in Macomb Township. My 8 year old son suffers from severe rage and melt downs. We have had him to several different therapists and nothing seems to help. No one has been able to tell us as parents how to handle it either. Do you have any recommendations as to therapists or places we could take our son that may help with the situation. I would appreciate any information you could share with me. Thanks, Patti

I have, after 40 years of feeling like I was dropped off on the wrong planet, and after many many therapy sessions with my self and my 3 eldest children with probably 30 or so different places, over as many years. (sorry we go on and on but I will get back to the point:) ) Finaly found out I have this gift. I will try to explain as best I can whats going on in our BRAINS. We learn visually and through touch, our BRAINS PROCESS INFORMATION DIFFERENTLY than others. Its like being deaf and blind but we can see and hear, and you cannot explain whats wrong because we cannot put into words the PROBLEM as we have no idea what you are saying, and what problem are you talking about anyway. If I were to ask you the time, you would probably know it roughly and tell me, or straight away look at your wrist and tell me etc. Now if you were to ask me the time my PROCESS goes like this, PANIC you have just asked me a question, I then have to ask myself the question to see if it makes sence, if it does not sound right I may ask you to repeat what you said, I then have to think have I got a watch on as I have no concept of time, unless I just looked moments before, I will have to look to check anyway because I cannot think whether I have one on or not, if ive not got one on PANIC wheres the nearest clock, I then have to look around (if its not home) to see if there is another way to tell the time, clock on wall etc, phone in bag, I will of thought all that before I can answer you. BUT as SOON as you have asked me a question my BRAIN does its own thing, I can no longer hear you or see I can only think, you may have already of said something else to me while I was thinking but I would not have heard you as I was thinking, you may have said your food is on the table while I was thinking of my answer of the time, I try to answer smile and walk in the opposite dirrection unaware my food is on the table. As I have this condition I know how hard it is to detect and try to explain to someone as it is so complex to someone who does not have it. And the severity is totalyy individual. The anger and rage come from no one understanding how hard it is to communicate and you know you are trying but its just not happening the way other people expect, If wwe had a great big red nose people would know something but its an internal difference of the sences proccessing the information to hand. At last my 10 year old asleep 10 before midnight, I may get a few hours sleep tonight. If you overload me with to much noise or information or ask me too many questions or change the level of your voice i will go on melt down as my BRAIN cannot proccess all this stuff at once. Then comes the anger as we overload with emotion which will be eithe fight or flight. Hope this helps Chrissy Young

Guest guest
Thanks Chrissy, it does explain a lot. There are just so many times I have no idea what set him off, but your explanation makes a lot of sense. > Dear Patti, I have AS HFA I also have 5 children all at different > abilities.
