Guest guest
I contacted the board of education. They gave me the number to their headquarters. I called there, talked to a woman who headed the special education department there. She gave me a treasuretrove of addresses and phone numbers to organizations and groups. She also clearly told me which services the school had to provide for my child with her IEP. She also told me to call her anytime there was a problem or I needed help or had a question. ---> She also told me to contact an ADVOCATE in my area, who helped me with every step of testing, IEP, and ongoing support and updating. I cannot impress enough, how important it is for people with an AS child, to contact an advocate. Its free. They are on your child's side in everything. Totally. They even came to my IEP with me, to make sure my child got all the services she needed, and even some I didn't know about. Even some the school didn't know about!! So talk to an advocate. Also? There is a group on the internet, called O.A.S.I.S. I found them before here, and they are very similar to how this group works. Other links on their site too. Oh, you can also call the health department, they will have some info for you too. (They'll tell you to call state special ed too lol).
