Guest guest
WOW! See.. This is what most of us parents are afraid of. I am no expert by any means.. But I suggest that you should start with a good psychologist or psychiatrist... To see your brother. This is who diagnosed my son. Is your brother willing to entertain the idea? It seems it's his choice not your mothers. Unless she has guardianship over him... Which then shows exactly how he cannot form the ability to make RIGHT and WRONG decisions. -- ( ) Adults with Asperger and legal precedents for crimes I need some advice and input from those involved in the Asperger community. I have a 41 year old brother who I am pretty sure has Asperger's Syndrome. Not 100% sure, but the symptoms are a perfect match in my opinion after serious examination of the symptoms and knowing him for 35+ yrs. I've never been able to convince my mother to get him help...a big frustration of mine. He was recently convicted of a crime and is facing jail time. Although I do not know if he really committed the crime, if he did, I truly believe he did not understand the " right " and " wrong " aspects of the crime because of his condition. But this information was not apart of the trial or his defense because my Mom will not own up to this, and the lawyer ignored my suggestion to investigate this. Does anyone know about the legal ramifications of an adult with Asperger who commits a crime? Are there any legal precedents for people like this who don't understand their boundaries with respect to society regarding what is right and wrong? Do they get any special consideration in the legal system? Any legal contacts or referrals for places that have information regarding people with Asperger's who commit a crime? Thanks. Guest guest
This may be coming a little after the fact but you may find it helpful. I know there has been at least one case in the papers regarding an adult with Asperger's being convicted of a crime. We also had a longtime poster who pops in now and then and he may have some further knowledge about this topic.
