Guest guest
My son was given abilify and that was a miracle drug. 5 miligrams is all it took. Helped him stay calm and sleep at night. Good luck! Re: ( ) Why are our kids missing school? Puberty starting is when all he!! broke lose around here. Depression, emotional meltdowns etc. We are on our way to the dr today to discuss yet again why this depression is not being helped by the currents meds he's on and see if we can't do something to help my poor child from suffering so... wish us some luck in finding just the right med for some relief from his despair... Guest guest
Thanks but we tried that first, last year, and it made my son worse...I'm glad it helps your daughter... Guest guest
If your child has a low seizure threshold, be careful of abilify, it can cause seizures in such children, like it did to my daughter. It worked great until we needed to up the dose due to growth and then she started seizures. It appears to effect kids with low thresholds to seizures, not all kids. My son takes it and I take it and we do great on it. Just thought you should know. Re: ( ) Why are our kids missing school? > > > Puberty starting is when all he!! broke lose around here. Guest guest
Toni, If you don't mind my asking, how many antidepressants has your son tried? The reason I'm asking is that antidepressants alone won't work with kids who have bipolar disorder. I'm not suggesting that your son has bipolar disorder, just suggesting that you might consider it with his doctor. Believe me, I know how frustrating the diagnostic process is. Guest guest
Liz, Hi.! He has been on prozac last year and then celexa started at a low dose and extended release xanax (2 mg) and adderall 10 mg. Yesterday the dr took him off everything except 10 mg of celexa. We started out with add diagnosis then n was diagnosed last year with aspergers, anxiety disorder and depression. About two visits ago the dr said maybe he has bipolar and we tried risperdal because of his violent outbursts. The depression and outbursts got WORSE so he upped the risperdal. It got even *worse* and n said blankety balnk this medicine none of it is working (last week) and wouldn't take any. Yesterday he wouldn't go to school again and my mom came over and n had a complete breakdown and threatened suicide several times so we went back to the dr yesterday and he took him off everything except 10 mg of celexa. For some reason n really likes the celexa and thats all he is willing to take now. Yesterday was so trying and devastating that I was ready to call 911 to get an ambulance to take him to the hosp. My mom said you don't want to do that with your husband out of town and we took him to the dr after about 45 minutes of begging, pleading, comforting, crying etc.... Today he is fine and went to school with NO problems and acts like yesterday didn't even happen. I am confused, frustrated and scared... His 30 yo stepbrother diagnosed bipolar died of an overdose in Nov and *that* scares me to death when n threatens to end up like his brother. The dr just asks him are you suicidal or homicidal and he says no and off we go... back on the rollercoaster....If you or anybody else has any suggestions, I am ready and willing to hear them....
