Guest guest
I am going to get a flu shot. I got one last year and no flu. This is very good for I have been a bad flu sufferer. I no longer believe that interferon's suppression of my immune system was helping, so if an immunization gives it a spike, I doubt it will hurt anything. I am supposedly protected from attacks by LDN but less sure about that. Has anyone out there had an attack while on LDN? *Anybody*? Reply in private if you want. -Sullivan --- In low dose naltrexone , " LarryGC " <larrygc@s...> wrote: > Anyone going out of their way to Get the Flu shot, or purposely NOT taking it, either due to MS or one of the CRABs or LDN they're taking? > > I don't take the flu shots, never have. Guest guest
I am curious about that too Larry. I don't want to get the flu cause it will put me down for a month or so. I always got the flu shot before without any problems but I read somewhere that it can cause problems for MS'ers. Do you know why. Guest guest
Morning, folks, About this flu shot thing. I'm glad it came up as a thread. Very timely. My oncologist insists that I get a flu shot every year. It's been about nine years running now. The only year I got the flu was the one where I got the shot too early - in September - and got the flu in April, after the shot's effectiveness had worn off. For all the other years - no flu. I get the shot mid-to-late October now and just pray I don't get the flu before that. I keep a bottle of Sambucol syrup around the house each fall/winter, along with olive leaf extract and grapefruit seed extract capsules - both excellent for a lot of things, but especially for fighting colds and flu. Among those three I could probably fight the flu, but I've had such success with the flu shot that I'm going to stick with it. Now, I don't have MS, but my wife does, and last year she got a flu shot right after I did - no flu. Year before we got our shot on the same day - no flu. October shots, mind you. She's so damned used to flu-like symptoms from Avonex and Rebif [before we cut that out] that if she never got the flu again in her lifetime she'd still be way behind. But we're both going to bite the bullet and get the shot again this year. -Al "Be moderate in everything . . . . . including moderation"From: Marie Deady [mailto: Mardea@...]mswatchers , larrygc@...Cc: low dose naltrexone , Spotlight_ldn Date: Fri, 26 Sep 2003 08:33:38 -0400Subject: Re: [low dose naltrexone] Flu Shot ?I am curious about that too Larry. Guest guest
I will never get the flu shot. A friend of mine with MS got one and had a bad attack immediately and went numb from the waist down. Remember. . .there is mercury in that flu shot, so be careful if you decide to get one. I don't think they can make it without it, but it wouldn't hurt to ask. More shots are being made without it these days due to complications, but I think the flu shot has it only with mercury. By the way - I don't vaccinate my kids either, MS changed my life in so many ways. . . no more trust in western medicine. Marie Deady wrote: I am curious about that too Larry. Guest guest
Hi Allan, How is the LDN split doseage going for your wife? It didn't seem to work for me. I am going to lower my dose though, to about 2mg for now, taken at midnight. So far, I havent had good results....just a lot of stiffness and weakness. I suppose that some of it is due to lack of exercise....but it's hard to exercise when yiou are already stiff and sore......will let you all know how the lower doseage works, and thanks so much for being there. Guest guest
Hi Y'all, I take a flu shot every year and a pneumonia shot every 4 years. When my temperature rises above 98.6, I struggle to walk, etc. It has been years since I've had the flu--thank goodness. Sally A.
Guest guest
Me too Sally A., My Doc insists....and now they don't use a live virus, so chances of the shots making you sick are minimal....unless you are allergic to eggs. Guest guest
For the Canadian viewpint on thimoseral, http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/pphb-dgspsp/publicat/ccdr-rmtc/03vol29/acs-dcc-1/inde x.html It just bothers me that my GP nor my former GP who has also been my friend since we were both 14 years old nor any other doctor has ever told me about thimoseral, but the guy I went to a few days ago specifically for LDN and nothing else would have known, would have told me about it before giving me a flu shot. I am disillusioned. Next time I see my GP I am going to mention thimoseral. I bet she's never heard of it. I am appalled. Every flu shot. Of course its only micrograms so it can't hurt. Every molecule of mercury you ever ingested is somewhere inside you still. It don't go away till you ask it to by name. On another topic, you must have heard this before, chocolate induces endorphin production. Of course it is often laced with hydrogenated oils, which mess you up later. But you will get an endorphin hit from the chocolate. It tastes like Love. Yes I am up at the crack of DAWN again. Played some guitar, walked around in the mostly dark house, balance better but still not great. " Adults and children with chronic conditions, such as diabetes mellitus and other metabolic diseases, cancer, immunodeficiency, immunosuppression (due to underlying disease and/or therapy) (YES FOLKS THAT INCLUDES INTERFERON), renal disease, anemia, and hemoglobinopathy. Influenza vaccine is effective in reducing hospital admissions in adults with diabetes. The efficacy of the vaccine among children with chronic metabolic and renal diseases is uncertain, but this uncertainty should not preclude consideration of the vaccine. Immunosuppressed patients are at increased risk of influenza infection, morbidity, and mortality. Although some immunosuppressed individuals may have a suboptimal immune response, influenza vaccination is safe and can induce protective antibody levels in a substantial proportion of adults and children, including transplant recipients, those with proliferative diseases of the hematopoietic and lymphatic systems, and HIV infected patients. Influenza may result in significant morbidity and mortality among HIV-infected individuals. Influenza vaccination has not been shown to cause a significant sustained decrease in CD4+ T-lymphocyte cell count or progression of HIV disease in HIV-infected individuals. Influenza vaccination is effective in preventing symptomatic laboratory-confirmed influenza infection in HIV- infected individuals with a mean CD4+ T-lymphocyte cell count of 400 cells/mm3 (9). During a 1996 outbreak of influenza in a residential facility for HIV infected people, vaccination efficacy was 65% for those with CD4+ T-lymphocyte counts > 100 cells/mm3, 52% for those with HIV-1 viral load < 30,000 RNA copies/mL, and 75% for those with both CD4+ T-lymphocyte count > 100 cells/mm3 and HIV viral load < 30,000 RNA copies/mL(10). However influenza vaccine may not induce protective antibody titres in those with low CD4+ T-lymphocyte cell counts, and there is evidence that a second dose of vaccine does not improve their immune response(11,12).
