My now 14 year old started into the severe anxiety

when he was 11. He was on Lexapro at the time and had

been on Risperadal with Paxil before the Lexapro. We

took him off the Paxil and Risperadal and he was on

the Lexapro when the anxiety peaked. He was placed on

Geodon. Which seemed to amplify the symptoms. We

changed psych's because all the psych was doing is

changing the meds left and right. He had also given us

Xanax to help him when he was really badly off. (Many

a midnight run to the hospital where he was given

Adivan, and by the time we got back home, he was as

bad off as when we'd left for the hospital.) He spent

2 months waiting to get into the new psych's office

and came off all meds. When we got to the new psych,

he was placed on Prozac (5 mg) and then increased to

10. A difference in night and day! He still has some

anxiety, but he'll express it in a question for

reassurance, and once I tell him he's okay, he's fine.

He was up to 15 mg, but the dosage hadn't changed in

over a year, so with his growth, he's probably weaned

himself down to a lower dose. We just changed doctors

again, and he wants us to try and wean him off the med

completely. So he's down to 10 mg a day and seems to

be doing okay. They hope to have him off it completely

before school starts. But if not, that's okay. We can

live with it.
