Guest guest
Good morning, Sally: You probably already have but just in case you haven't thought of it, you might copy Don's e-mail and show it to your husband and brother. It's a very good documentary. Noland ----- Original Message ----- From: sally chrisman Dongro67@... ; EGN2@... ; Galaxyhal@... ; rangeus50@... My Brother and my Husband both had prostate cancer...my bro,,,agressive and even though the operation and radiation and hormones brought his psa down, his cancer mastacised to spine and he has an inoperative tumor....he is still fighting. My husband, on the other hand, had a very slow growing cancer and he only had radiation, which brought his psa from 18. to .04....after a year it is up to .06.....so for all intents and purposes, you might say he is cured. Can't talk either one into LDN...MEN!!..lol. I hear you on the unfeeling way we are being treated by the medical establishment. I will never understand their chicken s~~~ attitudes. We just have to take back the power and star demanding better treatments. The cures for our illnesses are out there ....they just haven't decided to give them to us yet....if we are all cured....they will have to start pumping gas, for a living...lol. Keep up the good news and keep us posted. Best Regards, Sally ----- Original Message ----- From: Dongro67@... EGN2@... ; Galaxyhal@... ; rangeus50@... ; salpal@... Sent: Thursday, November 27, 2003 12:24 PM Subject: Naltrexone vs. Hormone Therapy Here is an update on my situation. I started LDN on November 4th after visiting Bernard Bihari. First, a quick review. After a Turps (benign) about 19 years ago, my PSA started going up and down. Three biopsies were negative, they were doing six snips at the time, not 12. No symptoms. Biopsy in 4/01 indicated small but agressive cancer left lobe only. CT-Scan & MRI indicated no perineural invasion, but likelihood of microscopic activity on account of Gleason 9/10 and PSA then of 21.2. I had 6 (maybe only 5, kept negotiating with onco) Luprons-7.5mg , 1 Casodex (50 mg, didn't like it), IMRT of 1.8 gray, 33 sessions. Implant (36 seeds) October 1, 2001. Post-brachy PSA: 3/25/02-0.8; 10/16/02-1.5; 4/1/03-2.74; 8/29/03-5.4. Before starting the LDN, I obtained a base PSA on 10/28/03; surprisingly, it was 5.81. Since my PSA was more than doubling over 6-month periods, one would have expected it, after two months, to be more than 7. That it was not, is very good news. Bihari believes that my PSA will go down to the area of 2. Why not lower, he didn't say. He felt that the 2-year break from my last Lupron is a sufficient period as not to affect the utility of the LDN. I've had no ill effects from the LDN and take it each night after 10. My GP, urol and onco all agree I'm doing the right thing, but none would prescribe LDN themselves despite their agreement that it would do no harm, and might help. I find that inexplicable. I also find Bihari's $500 initial charge outrageous, although not out of line with other first-visit specialists. Moreover, he does not participate in Medicare, hence I receive no reimbursement from the Govt or from my secondary insurer. Nice. And now the stupid Congress, with the support of many Democrats, has given us a RX drug benefit that is a sham and will doom Medicare. Despite the wonderful assistance that Bihari has provided to many patients and his and others' efforts to promote LDN, for my money, the medical profession, along with the rapacious pharmaceutical industry and theiving insurance industry, all stink. They all, in connivance with the federal government, are engaged in a beautiful scheme to enrich one another at poor folks' expense. At least Bihari is doing some good. But look at Big Pharma, getting their R & D costs essentially paid for by the government and then charging excessively. And only doing research where big bucks will be returned for their investment. As for medical insurers, they're in a no-lose situation, together with their friends, the HMOs and PPOs. Lord, how we Americans are being swindled. Well, there, I've railed more than I intended. I will have my PSA check again beginning of February and let you know. If you have any comments or thoughts, let me hear from you.
