Guest guest
I looked this up in my drug book. Naloxone is also known as Narcan. Narcan can be given by injection IV or intramuscular as an antidote to reverse central nervous system and respiratory depression in suspected narcotic overdose, neonatal (new born) opiate (opium type drugs)in new born babies, and also used for excessive alcohol ingestion, and coma's of unknown etilogy (not knowing what caused the unconsciousness.) It can also be given in cases of post anesthesia, (when anesthetics used for surgery causes ill effects such as inability to breath due to the anesthetic gases or drug. In cases of a new born baby being addicted to opium type drugs and heroine due to the mother's drug habits it has been used so the baby does not go into drug withdrawal. Naltrexone is also known as Revia, and Depade. It is also an antidote used in conjunction with the maintenance of an opioid-free state in DETOXIFIED opioid users. The drug book said, " Do not administer this drug until the patient is opioid free for 7 to 10 days. It is used in large doses, 25 mg, 50 mg, 100 to 150 mg as a preventative against further opiate drug usage. If a person were to take opioids on this large amount of Naltrexone the individual would become extremly ill. There is a difference in these two drugs and the reasons they are used. The reasons that WE take a very low dose of Naltrexone, is not for either reason, and does not fit either category!! For us it increases endorphins and T Cells working on our body's natural hormonal opioids. (Think of it as a booster drug.) I tried to make this simple and easy to understand. Does this clarify the differnces for anyone? mymisspriss
