Dietary supplements may endanger your health . For example, consider PC Spes. PC Spes, a blend of eight herbs, was taken by thousands of men to lower their PSA (prostatic specific androgen), a blood serum marker for prostate cancer. These men thought that, if they could reduce their PSA, they were no longer in danger of prostate cancer, and its’ progression was arrested. That’s not the case. While they were successful in lowering their PSA‘s, they still had the cancer. As a result of this deception, these men failed to get proper medical treatment.

Many naturopaths, alternative doctors including many traditional medical doctors were prescribing PC Spes for patients who had abnormal PSA’s. PC Spes was patented by Sophie Chen, PhD and manufactured by BiotanicLabs , a California company owned by Ms. Chen., et. al.

Prominent members of the medical establishment, impressed by anecdotal reports of the efficacy of PC Spes, initiated clinical trials. But shortly after the trials were underway, and preliminary results began to be reported , the trials were suddenly closed. What happened?

The California Department of Health Services did a laboratory analysis of the PC Spes and found that it was laced with prescription drugs ….aplrazolam (Xanax), warfarin (Coumadin,) estrogen (DES) and indomethacin (Indochron). Consumers of PC Spes were never aware or informed of the presence of these prescription drugs. Needless to say, BiotanicLabs was closed by the State of California and the principals of the company are now in court facing serious charges.

The defendant(s) were alleged to have profited in the millions of dollars from the sale of PC Spes. Many men, in spite of serious charges by the state health department, still continue to defend PC Spes. The supplement has allegedly caused serious injury and unnecessary death of many men with prostate cancer. To this day, the consequences of taking this dietary supplement are still evident, according to Don Cooley, owner of a highly respected and reputable web site, Patients Helping Patients-Finding A Treatment For Prostate Cancer.

PC Spes was an herbal supplement. Caveat emptor. This may be a tip of the iceberg. How many other supplements may be laced by prescription drugs or contain toxic substances. Doesn’t this example make you wonder? It makes me wonder!

We take our chances with anything we put in our mouths. Do you eat

meat, dairy and produce from the grocery store? Antibiotics, growth

hormones, pesticides and herbicides. I feel a lot better about

supplements than I do about the food foisted on us by the mainstream

food industry.

Not only that, but in the case of LDN it is very well known indeed

that it contains naltrexone. So no surprises there :).

I mean, the whole point of the warning was that with these alternative

treatments you would never know what surprises they contain. Well,

with LDN we do!

Hi Hal,

Thanks for your post. It's good to know about that supplement. This

is what my neuro would call, " anecdotal " . The idea that FDA

regulation will prevent thieves from stealing your money is

delusional. The drugs they have already approved KILL more than

100,000 people per year. Buyer beware! Good luck.
