Guest guest
Our #2 PDD-NOS had a great week: better socialization, better language, awesome moods. We were starting round 3 of ALA (AC protocol) at 4mg/dose (35lbs). Things were going great... Until around bedtime. Started getting chills and being unusually mellow. Finally got him to bed around 8:15. Around 10pm he started crying intensely for several minutes. So we checked on him and his room smelled so we thought he pooped. So we went to go change him and when the diaper came up empty, we wondered if he threw up. Sure enough he did -- a pretty good amount with a lot of liquid. So while I cleaned everything up my wife comforted him. Just as I finished he starting vomiting again. That's when the fun really started. I grabbed a trash can to minimize further carpet destruction and then he just stopped mid-vomit and went totally limp. Dead weight. So we brought him into the bathroom with the light on. His eyes were half open but he wasn't there. So I checked his mouth and tried to clear it in case he was choking. Nothing there. Then I made sure he was breathing. He was but a little inconsistently. Then I noticed his heart rate was off the charts -- probably 160-180bpm. So then my wife told me to call 911. While on the phone my wife dunked him in the tub with ice cold water. After a minute or two he started coming around then peed on the bathroom floor, crying to sit on the potty (this is potty training week -- oh the fun of that too). After that he was upset but generally ok. The EMTs showed up and said his vitals all looked ok and that they didn't think he had had a seizure. We've had no history but honestly we aren't sure what one would look like. In the ER they did blood work and gave him an IV. Rectal temp was 100.7 degrees. All blood work came back normal. ER doc said most likely a virus (sister's stomach was hurting earlier in the week but no vomiting) and that he may have had a vasovagal attack while vomiting. I know ASD kids tend to have seizures more often than non-ASDs (at least I think they do) but this certainly doesn't sound like a grand-mal. Petite mal supposedly lasts for only a few seconds with similar symptoms but he was out at least 1-2 minutes. My brother had similar episodes as a child (don't remember the dx) so there's a genetic possibility there too I suppose. I also saw recent posts about ALA causing kids to vomit but we were several doses into the round and a very low dose (and 3rd week overall) so that doesn't seem like the cause either. Anyone ever have something like this happen to their little ones? Just looking for some answers/ideas before I go calling his doctors tomorrow. Thanks, --todd PS: Basic supps, etc.: TD DMPS (AC), ALA (AC), TD LDN, Brainchild multi, L-Carnitine, Zinc, Mg, Folinic Acid, Sach Boul, Kirkman Super 75B probio, P5P, BerryKeen, HNI Ezymes (SCD versions), calcium, diet is GF/CF.
