They could completely alter the way we practice medicine." --Fortune Magazine Embryonic Stem cells were discovered in 1997. Since that time much data has been amassed in international clinical studies on these miraculous cells. They have been documented as effective treatment for most all degenerative conditions as well as injuries. This is due to their capacity to regenerate the blood system, as well as every single organ, tissue and cell system in the human body. This "plasticity" was proven in a 2002 study by Dr. Verfaillie at University of Minnesota. Stem cells are master healer cells which carry a blue print for optimal human health. They have been proven to migrate to the site of disease and upon arrival produce a copy of themselves as well as a copy of whatever cell is missing or damaged. There are three types of human stem cells (CD34 Cells) classified on the basis of their source: 1) Embryonic Stem Cells, derived from in vitro fertilizations or from fetal tissue. These are technically the most powerful stem cells, but cost prohibitive and with obvious right to life issues. 2) Adult Stem Cells, derived from bone marrow of adults. These are older cells with the weakest potential. They also require very specific matching in order to avoid graft vs. host reaction. 3) Cord Blood Stem Cells, derived from otherwise discarded umbilical cords from natural full term births. These cells are nine months old, with much of the power of an Embryonic Stem Cell and none of the right to life issues. BioMark uses only Cord Blood Stem Cells donated from consenting mothers of full term births. BioMark Cord Blood Stem Cells (CBSC) are derived from the umbilical cord of consenting mothers who have been safety tested in accordance with American Association of Blood Banks standards. The pure stem cells are then separated from the rest of the cord blood with a patented technology, and are cryogenically frozen in vials, under strict laboratory conditions. BioMark Cord Blood Stem Cells are: § Pure, with no red or white cells. This negates the need for blood typing or HLA matching. § Safe, with no graft versus host or rejection issues (as is the potential from whole cord blood).§ Pluripotent, CBSC have been proven to regenerate every single cell in the human body (C. Verfaillie, Univ of Minn. July 2002).§ Powerful, BioMark cells are specially processed to include a large percentage of a particular subset (CD133) which perform much like Embryonic Stem Cells. These cells have promoted positive clinical results in every single person who has received them. To date, no negative side effects have ever been noted. CORD BLOOD STEM CELL THERAPY - AN OVERVIEW Treatment with Cord Blood Stem Cells is remarkably simple. It involves a simple, subcutaneous (in the fat of the stomach) / IV injection. This number has been determined from in house clinical response data as well as from the 2,000+ documented applications of whole umbilical cord blood to blood cancer. One cord (appox. 300,000 stem cells) has been shown to heal 80% of all children with blood cancer and 40% of all adults. When cord blood is whole, or unrefined, it is impossible to combine cords to get a higher number suitable for adults, due to antigenic conflict amongst the immune cells. By selecting only the stem cells, higher, more therapeutic cell numbers can be safely transfused. Generally, the stem cells are injected into the fat of the stomach. The fat layer has proven the best educator and distributor of stem cells, largely due to the fact that adult stem cells live in the bone marrow which is composed of alkaline fat and the brain is composed mainly of fat. Once in the body, the cells migrate to the site of disease and begin producing the needed cells. This process of noticable reconsititution usually peaks between 3 and 6 months following treatment. Often significant results are noted at the one month mark. Results have been noted up to 12 months. Every patient, based upon initial condition, has reported varied timing on the achievement of positive results. Every person treated has experienced a positive result. These results vary from long standing remissions to significant improvements in function and overall well being. Nutrition and detoxification are important contributors to these achievements. LABORATORY PROCESSING Step 1: Umbilical Cord blood is collected from the informed and consenting mother of a full term birth. Blood is collected from the vein only, meaning the blood comes only from the baby. It is meticulously tested for safety in accordance with American Association of Blood Bank standards, and shipped to our lab. Step 2: Under sterile conditions, the red blood cells are removed from the sample using a patented separation technique, negating any need for blood type matching. Step 3: White blood cells are removed from the sample using a proprietary selection technique which leaves behind 100% pure CD34 stem cells. This negates the need for HLA matching associated with whole cord transplantation and also removes any possibility of graft versus host complications. Because the cells are a pure, primative cell type, there is no risk of immune reaction or rejection with BioMark Cord Blood stem cells. Step 4: The sample is made more powerful by expanding a particular CD34 subset of cells from 10-30% to 60-85%. This subset is called CD133 and is thought to be responsible for the pluripotent clinical effects noted with cord blood stem cells. CD133 Stem Cells: - have longer lifespans (telomerase chains) than Cord Blood CD34 cells.- are projenitors of CD34 cells. - are incapable of being infected by the HIV virus. - are the youngest, most powerful cells available in a cord blood sample. They produce in the lab, unprevoked: neuronal, epithelial, endothelial and blood cells. - compose 5% of an adult stem cell population- compose 10-30% of a cord blood stem cell population- compose 85% of an embryonic stem cell population Their function and power is similar to that of embryonic stem cells with none of the right to life issues. As a product of this expansion procedure, all cells come from the same cord base and match genetically. DISEASE TYPE APPLICABILITY The scope of clinical results with selected cord blood CD 34 stem cells is wide. The cells have been proven to improve most all degenerative conditions. Improvement is usually based more on degree of degeneration than disease type. It has been noted that blood based deficiencies, auto-immune conditions and blood vessel related diseases respond most impressively. CONDITIONS INCLUDE: 1) Neurodegenerative Conditions (MS, ALS, Parkinson's, MD, Stroke, Autism) - In MS, stem cells regenerate neurons, myelin (proven in an NIH/ Natl. MS Society study) and rebalance the auto immune components of the blood.- In ALS, stem cells regenerate neurons, specifically motor neurons and decrease muscle spasms and degeneration.- In Parkinson's neurons are regenerated.- In MD, muscle cells are regenerated.- In Stroke, if applied immediately after incident, there are frequently no remaining effects of the stroke. If applied in the years following, neuronal regeneration has been noted alongside symptomatic decrease.- In Autism, immune cells are regenerated, facilitating detoxification and regenerating necessary neurons. 2) Ocular Disorders (Glaucoma, Retinitis Pigmentosa) - In Glaucoma, ocular nerves have shown regeneration.- In RP, blood vessels are easily strengthened, and peripheral as well as night vision restored. 3) Auto Immune Conditions (Lupus, MS, R. Arthritis, Diabetes, etc.) - In all above conditions stem cells regulate white cell imbalances.- In Diabetes actual pancreatic islet cells are produced. 4) Viral Conditions (Hepatitis C and AIDS) - Hematopoetic stem cells have been proven to regenerate liver cells in Hep C and Cirrhosis conditions.- Immune system is supported for a powerful anti viral response.- An AIDS specific vaccine is currently in development implementing genetically coded cord blood stem cells. 5) Heart Disease - Cardiac tissue has been shown to regenerate, facilitating healthy heart function.- Stem cells have been proven to build new myocytes, endothelial cells, smooth muscle cells.- The above cells generate de novo myocardium, inclusive of coronary arteries, arterioles and capillaries.- This was recently illustrated during the injection of stem cells to an injured teen's heart with full restoration of function in place of a complete heart transplant. 6) Adrenal Disorders - Stem cells have been shown to clinically reduce the effects of 's Disease. 7) Injury (nerve, brain, etc.) - Injured areas can be reconstituted using stem cells. 8) Anti aging (hair, skin, weight control, overall well being/prevention) - Many patients have noted thickening and restoration of hair. - Skin quality has also improved, with regards to coloring and wrinkle reduction. - Underweight patients have consistently gained optimal amounts of weight.- Varicose and spider veins have been noted to disappear.- Feelings of strength and euphoria have been noted in the first month. 9) Emotional Disorders - Depression associated with MS, RP and cancer has consistently been put into temporary or long term remission. 10) Organ/Tissue Cancers - Immune system support (inciting a reduction of cancer cells)- Post chemotherapy reconstitution 11) Blood Cancers - Stem cells regulate blood cell imbalances. - Post chemotherapy, stem cells efficate blood cell reconstitution (in the place of a bone marrow or entire cord blood transplant). 12) Blood diseases (Wiscott Aldrich's Syndrome, etc.) - Stem cells have been proven to regenerate and balance the blood system.- Stem cells function in the place of an entire cord transplant without requiring chemotherapeutic ablation. TRADITIONAL APPLICATIONS Since the first whole cord blood transplant in 1988, traditional hospital and universities have implemented this treatment over 2,000 times for blood cancers and blood diseases. Applications of whole cord blood, previously treated by bone marrow transplant are listed by the American Association of Blood Banks as follows: Malignant Diseases · Acute lymphocytic leukemia · Acute myelocytic leukemia · Juvenile chronic myelogenous leukemia · Chronic myelogenous leukemia · Neuroblastoma · Refractory anemia with excess blasts Nonmalignant Diseases · Fanconi anemia · Aplastic anemia · Refractory anemia · Thalassemia · Sickle cell anemia · Amegakaryocytic thrombocytopenia · Kostmann syndrome · Blackfan-Diamond syndrome · Severe combined immunodeficiency · X-linked lymphoproliferative disorder · Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome · Hurler syndrome · Hunter syndrome · Gunther disease · Osteopetrosis · Globoid cell leukodystrophy · Adrenoleukodystrophy CASE STUDIES Numerous cases of remarkable improvements and complete remissions have been reported using Biomark cord blood stem cell therapy.
