Guest guest
Hi , After talking to you earlier today, I'm thinking you might want to resume the LDN, especially since it's a low dose. If it's causing a fall in your blocking TSH receptor antibodies and your TSI are also on their way down, you might not want to interfere with the process. I'm anxious to hear more about your progress, Elaine Read my articles at http://spas.suite101.com/ http://autoimmunedisease.suite101.com and www.elaine-moore.com/gravesdisease/ and read more about me at www.elainemoore.net If we single-pointedly practice great compassion, then, with little effort, we will be able to gain all other virtues-Geshe Namgyal Wangchen, "Awakening the Mind" [low dose naltrexone] Promising results for ai thyroid disease Hi, as I posted last week I've had what seems to be significant improvement in my thyroid disease and thyroid eye disease; my ecsema also seems to be improving. I was taking 60 mcg T4 and 10 mcg T3 to address a hypothyroid phase of Graves' disease (Graves' antibodies attach to the TSH receptors and can make a person either hyperthyroid or hypothyroid, depending on the balance of two types of antibodies). After 2 weeks on 1.5 mg LDN, I stopped my replacement because my heart rate shot up to 80, signaling my thyroid levels were too high. I also stopped the LDN because I wasn't certain what was going on. I've been without thyroid replacement since Thursday and my heart rate has nearly returned to normal. The remaining thyroid eye disease symptom that bothered me, a visibly protruding eye, has disappeared and my eyes look equal again. I'll report back when I get labs in a month or so--and if I start to experience hypothyroid symptoms again I'll probably go back on the LDN--but I'm very encouraged. Guest guest
Hi Elaine, Yes, I think I will resume the LDN. I was dividing 10 mg into 6 doses, so I was taking slightly more than 1.5 mg. I had stopped it last week when I had the dramatic rise in thyroid levels just to be sure they didn't keep rising for some reason (as if perhaps TSI would be the one type of autoantibody it didn't effect?) but my pulse is nearly back to normal, so I'm no longer as concerned. It's more reasonable to think I'd need a little longer than two weeks on LDN to correct a problem going back at least 6 years and probably much longer. I'll get labs in a month and post my results. Some of us on Graves' Support are very interested in finding out what LDN can do for Graves'--and for people still hyper, to see if we can start LDN without stopping the antithyroid med (atd) until we know our levels are under control. The dilemma is that we should stop immunosuppressants, and presumably the atds fall into this category. Perhaps a safer strategy would be frequent lab work and being prepared to decrease it very quickly. I never expected to have such dramatic improvement in my remaining thyroid eye disease symptoms, and the eczema on my palms that I developed last spring is also healing, so I'm very encouraged. I hope this will be a huge help for people with ai thyroid disease. I'll keep you posted, and I appreciate you telling us about it. (Actually Angel over on Mediboard picked up your article from suite101, which is what triggered the current interest.) I guess that proves women with thyroid problems should not " stay off the Internet, " despite what our endos tell us!
