Epson salt bath = BEET RED ears and face??

My son gets epsom salts in his bath 2x a week. I've never seen anything I

would call a side effect or reaction. Tonight all was fine with him. I washed

his hair and cleaned him first, then put in the salts (same brand I always

used, and from a half used box so no change there) and within 5 minutes the

outer

rim of his ears were redder than red and then his face followed. Not just

his cheeks but his entire face. The rest of him just got bright pink. He didn't

eat or drink anything new or different all day.

Any ideas what this could mean or what happened here?
