Guest guest
Hello Friends, As some of you may know, my daughter has Hepatitis B and she has been tremendously helped by the use of Low Dose Naltrexone and other Complimentary & Alternative Medicine (CAM) during the past six months. I posted our last update on 12/16/07 (Message #58403) which documented the dramatic reduction of her liver enzymes & viral load with the help of LDN (and I'm sure God's great mercy has a hand in it, too!) Ingrid posted a follow up (in Message 58431) suggesting I start a new Group to cover Hepatitis treatments. While LDN/CAM has worked so well for us, I have found that successful LDN/CAM treatments for Hepatitis in children (or adults) have not been well documented or tracked on an ongoing basis. Unfortunately, this means many people are unaware of the many different treatment alternatives (both with LDN/CAM solely or using CAM/Conventional protocols together). This has spurred me on to take action...yes, there's a brand new Group -- it's called " Hepatitis_Children_and_CAM_Alternatives " . I welcome my friends (who are affected by Hepatitis) to also join another Group that is specifically targeted to tracking, discussing, and documenting successful LDN/CAM (and also Conventional) treatments protocols for all types of Hepatitis. Successful treatments will be documented in a few ways. First, we will post clinical trials and research papers from NIH and other important medical websites relating to CAM treatments. Second, group members are encouraged to share their full treatment story, including the relevant medical information (treatment protocol, lab results before and after beginning treatment (ALT/AST, DNA viral loads, Antigen & Antibody status, etc.), and your doctor's response to the success of your protocol). Members can post the (1) detailed medical information in " Messages " and (2) summary data in the " Database " section (under the appropriate treatment protocol " Table " ). That way, protocols can be documented and others can learn about alternative treatments being used effectively. Note to those in the medical community on the LDN Group - Please provide suggestions on how we can best track and document this information so it would be helpful to doctors and medical researchers in the future. I would love to be able to provide usable data to the medical community that proves LDN and other CAM treatments are working in Hepatitis patients. This new group could play a part in getting Hepatitis & LDN/CAM medical research started! Please feel free to e-mail me offline with this data. So I'm starting on a new journey and welcome you or your friends affected by Hepatitis to join me if you want to explore the vast array of alternatives. We'll start off small, but seek to be a beacon of hope to those who search for alternative healthy first line treatments for this liver illness. If you decide to join the group, please feel free to offer suggestions on how we can best track information -- I'm open to suggestions! The group is currently using the " Messages " , " Databases " , and " Links " sections to help members. A special thanks to Ingrid for planting the seed of this new group. May you be blessed in this new year! Peace ~ Joyce P.S. Here is our " Mission Statement " : Hepatitis_Children_and_CAM_Alternatives Welcome! This group celebrates the beautiful gift that we have been given - our children. Our children have a disease called Hepatitis. We are not 'defined' by this illness. Instead, our goal is to be 'refined' into compassionate people who seek to share healthy, hopeful, and winning remedies with others! Adults ('big kids') with Hepatitis are also welcome to join and share information. All forms of Hepatitis (B, C, etc.) treatments may be discussed in this group. Our primary focus will be on documenting successful Complimentary & Alternative Medicine (CAM) approaches (Integrative or Functional Medicine using Antioxidants, Probiotics, Low Dose Naltrexone, etc.). We will also explore conventional medical treatments (Interferon / Anti-virals). This group will respect the healing journey each member has chosen, even though it may be different from the road that we have individually chosen. We seek to share information on the vast range of successful treatments for Hepatitis. Each group member is encouraged to share their treatment story in detail in order to authenticate its success! This includes relevant medical information (treatment protocol, lab results before and after beginning treatment (ALT/AST, DNA viral loads, Antigen & Antibody status, etc.), and your doctor's response to the success of your protocol). Clinical trials, studies and research papers on different Hepatitis treatment protocols are also posted. The information on this group is not meant to substitute for that of a medical professional. Instead, this information is simply a starting point on which each group member should investigate the treatment information presented, and then make sound decisions based on consultations with a medical doctor. Please join us on a journey of healing that we are traveling together! May Peace & Hope be our traveling companions!

Guest guest
Hi Saundra, In addition, you could recommend milk thistle/silymarin herb, one supplement that helps restore the liver. That's probably what healed my hepatitis B. Guest guest
Hello Saunda, Well, to be honest, I don't know if LDN would help in every form of Hepatitis (since there are now so many different kinds of Hepatitis). However, in my opinion, I believe that most forms of Hepatitis (whether B, C, or autoimmune, which are the most common) would have beneficial gains for many (but not necessarily all) suffering patients who use LDN to fight the virus. The great thing about LDN is that it appears to let the body figure out what's wrong (whether it's cancer, HIV/AIDS, MS, Hepatitis) and then balance its own immune system to target the illness. I don't understand it all - but it's a miracle! In our case, my daughter has Hepatitis B. When I was first investigating LDN as a possible alternative, I noticed the LDN Website (http://www.low dose naltrexone.org/) gave a very quick excerpt about LDN helping Hepatitis C (the excerpt is copied below). I figured that if LDN could help Hep C and HIV/AIDS (two viral diseases), then it would probably also help Hepatitis B (another viral disease). Well, we have been helped immensely as documented in my prior postings and also on the new Group (Hepatitis_Children_and_CAM_Alternatives). The great news for us as that we were going to need to go on anti- viral Hepatitis B drugs last spring (2007) because of my daughter's very high liver enzymes -- but then we found LDN last summer (2007). As it stands now, we don't need to go on the anti-viral drugs because LDN is working so great! As my daughter's Gastroenterologist said when I told him the lab results after using LDN for a couple of months, " This is great news ...this is better than going on an anti- viral drug because her own immune system is doing the same job as the anti-viral drug, but without the risk of developing anti-viral drug resistance " . So, in my opinion, LDN should be a first line therapy alternative for any type of Hepatitis. What has one got to loose (except maybe the virus)? It's definately worth a try - if it does not work, then a patient could move on to the Interferons or Anti- Virals drugs. I'm so glad and thankful that we did! Please feel free to send the link to your uncle (Hepatitis_Children_and_CAM_Alternatives). You may be offering him a new hope, especially since Dr. Bihari said LDN was helping his patients with Hepatitis C and we've been so helped for Hepatitis B. We will welcome treatment discussions on all types of Hepatitis. Peace to you! Joyce http://www.low dose naltrexone.org/ldn_latest_news.htm As of February 2001: Hypericin and LDN for Hepatitis C. In a study of St. 's Wort in 15 patients with HIV in 1990, Dr. Bihari had accidentally discovered a significant benefit to liver function in two patients with hepatitis B (whereas there was no improvement in HIV markers). Bihari then began to use St. 's Wort in his private practice to treat hepatitis B and hepatitis C - patients with the former responded well, the latter not at all. Since 1995, Dr. Bihari has been able to use a very highly concentrated form of hypericin, the active ingredient found in St. 's Wort, called HY2 (manufactured by Pacific Biologic in Clayton, CA; 800-869-8783) in the treatment of people with hepatitis C. It is given along with LDN, to enhance the immune response, and in many cases with ribavirin, an antiviral. Over 60 patients have been successfully treated for hepatitis C in Dr. Bihari's practice. Guest guest
Hello Aletha, Thanks - please feel free to give the link to anyone who has Hepatitis (whether B, C, D, autoimmune, etc.) and it's open to discuss treatments for both adults and children. While my experience is on Hepatitis B for a child, I'm hoping that others will also join who can share their positive experiences with the other types. While the LDN Website mentions that Dr. Bihari had success with Hep C (and we've had success with Hep , I could not find one website that documented successful LDN or CAM treatments for either Hep type in a comprehensive manner. That's one reason I started the new group. FYI - We will ask members to post detailed information in the " Messages " section. Also, I've set up 6 different tables in the " Database " section with different treatment types (Low Dose Naltrexone, Traditional Chinese Medicine & Herbs, Antioxidants, Nutritional Aids (Probiotics/EFA's), Anti-Virals, and Interferons). Each of the table databases will allow us to quickly determine how many people have used or are currently using each treatment type and how successful it's been. Each patient can add a new row documenting briefly their treatment protocol. Here's an example from the LDN table (where I've added our data): Tables > Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN) Hepatitis Type (A, B, C, etc.) - Child or Adult Group Member's Name Besides LDN, are other protocols being used? Guest guest
I am so glad to hear your daughter responded. It is so hard to deal with children getting sick!!! Thank you for all the information. I will most definately get it to him. Luckily for him, he is in Wisconsin, and the doctors up north seem to be so much more up on new research and alternatives.(just my opinion and experience with being down here in the deep south) Good luck to you, and I hope everything continues to go so well. Guest guest
Hello MomofJoyce, Congrats and may the new group be a great help fot it's visitors, you are the right person at the right place! With all the best from Ingrid [low dose naltrexone] New Group - LDN/CAM Treatments for HepatitisHello Friends, As some of you may know, my daughter has Hepatitis B and she has been tremendously helped by the use of Low Dose Naltrexone and other Complimentary & Alternative Medicine (CAM) during the past six months. This has spurred me on to take action...yes, there's a brand new Group -- it's called"Hepatitis_Children_and_CAM_Alternatives". Members can post the (1) detailed medical information in "Messages" and (2) summary data in the "Database" section (under the appropriate treatment protocol "Table"). The group is currently using the "Messages", "Databases", and "Links" sections to help members. A special thanks to Ingrid for planting the seed of this new group. May you be blessed in this new year! Peace ~ Joyce P.S. Here is our "Mission Statement": Hepatitis_Children_and_CAM_Alternatives Welcome!
Guest guest
Hi Saundra, What a beautiful niece your uncle has got! I am quite sure LDN may help your uncle. Has he started any treatment yet for his hepatitis? The most common hepatitits for drug users is hep. B and C. If he is using some medicine like buprenorphine, subuxone, subutex or methadone he can not use LDN. Those medications are contraindicated, and I am sure your uncle will get problems if he stops using one of those if he wants to try low dose naltrexone. He needs to discuss this with a doctor that really knows low dose naltrexone to find out it it will harm. Even if he would use as small doses as 4.5 mg LDN could interact with one of those medications in an unwanted way.with all the best Ingrid [low dose naltrexone] New Group - LDN/CAM Treatments for Hepatitis Hello Friends, As some of you may know, my daughter has Hepatitis B and she has been tremendously helped by the use of Low Dose Naltrexone and other Complimentary & Alternative Medicine (CAM) during the past six months. Guest guest
Hi , My brother had both hepatitis B and C, he was a drug addict, while he lived this sad life as a drug addict he ate milk thistle that we bought him, he ate this for maybe 3 - 4 years, and both his hepatitis are burned out as the doctors says, he has viral loads that are below detectable levels since several years now. The only treatment also for him. But, we have to remember that there are different kinds of hepatitis C and B, people have different kind of viral/genotypes, and some hepatitis genotypes are easier to treat than other. But ldn is worth a try, but I am sure a doctor has to follow up and screen his patient. The liver could be sensitive to LDN. Ingrid RE: [low dose naltrexone] New Group - LDN/CAM Treatments for HepatitisHi Saundra,In addition, you could recommend milk thistle/silymarin herb, one supplementthat helps restore the liver. That's probably what healed my hepatitis B.Best wishes, B. ________________________________From: low dose naltrexone [mailto:low dose naltrexone ] On Behalf Of Dudley DelanySent: Monday, January 14, 2008 9:18 PMTo: low dose naltrexone Subject: Re: [low dose naltrexone] New Group - LDN/CAM Treatments forHepatitisHi Saundra,I don't know if LDN helps all forms of hepatitis or not, but, given its lowcost and absence of serious side effects, it is certainly worth a try.For more information about LDN, visithttp://tinyurl.com/2boot2 <http://tinyurl.com/2boot2> Best regards,Dudley Delanydudley_delany________________________________From: Saundra RenzSent: Monday, January 14, 2008 8:22 PMlow dose naltrexone Subject: Re: [low dose naltrexone] New Group - LDN/CAM Treatments forHepatitis Can LDN help all forms of hepatitis? Guest guest
Hi Ingrid, Yes, I agree LDN could well have great effects against hepatitis and could be very helpful. I know some types are autoimmune (I believe Elaine has written about them), which would make them especially likely to be helped by LDN. If it were me I'd try the LDN with the milk thistle as a supplement along with it. I only mention it as an adjunct and also if someone were reluctant to try LDN. And given that it heals the liver, who knows, it might make the LDN easier to tolerate. I also took milk thistle while taking antithyroid medication, to protect my liver from that. Some people said that would keep the medication from being effective, but it worked well for me nonetheless, and my liver stayed healthy. I've had such great, quick improvement in my autoimmune problems from LDN that I'm recommending it to everyone I meet and trying to educate all my doctors. BTW, when a new doctor found I no longer had a viral load for my hepatitis she didn't believe it and said that means I never had it! But it had been confirmed by a colleague of my father at Merck, the one who created the hepatitis B vaccine, so I certainly did. Guest guest
Hello B., Thanks for your note. Please feel free to join the new group and also share your story with successfully treating Hepatitis with Milk Thistle. We welcome personal stories where children or adults have personally been helped - whether through LDN, Milk Thistle, or any other helpful alternative. It's powerful to hear the healing journeys of members of the group - it gives hope to others! My goal in starting the group is to inform others of the success in using LDN with Hepatitis (as well as other treatments, such as Milk Thistle, Antioxidants, etc.). Another goal is to track the medical results of members (through the Database Tables section) in order to authenticate LDN and other CAM treatments as viable, healthy first line alternatives (before using Interferons, Anti-Virals). Congratulations on 'slaying the dragon' of Hepatitis!
