Guest guest
Hi-- Just catching up and saw this interesting discussion. My brother has MS and I have nonhodgkins lymphoma. I wonder if both these diseases might be caused by one of the viruses in the herpes family. In my case, I know that my tumor tissue tested positive for EBV (Epstein Barr virus)---a herpes virus. Since most everyone has been exposed to EBV (the cause of mononucleosis) and the other herpes viruses, you have to explain why some people should end up with serious diseases. That is where PCB's come in. At the EPA (US Environmental Protection Agency) internet site are studies that show that the combination of PCBs and EBV produce a large increase in nonhodgkins lymphomas. I'm not aware of similar studies in regard to MS, but I know that researchers are looking at the connection between MS and EBV. Regards, S. Guest guest
Dear , My wife has Multiple Myeloma, a cousin to NHL. MM is an incurable blood cancer in which certain imunoglobulins run amok. They displace normal bone marrow, destroying the skeletal system, causing severe anemia, and generally hosing up the immune system. My wife is presently in a complete response to a newly approved drug called Velcade. I'm monitoring LDN users whose experience may relate. When my Barb relapses LDN may help hold her mm back. I wish you all the best. Don Schultz (no medical training, and not terribly bright) Near Joliet IL. Guest guest
Hi Don-- I just discovered this letter in my drafts folder. Forgot to send it. Thank you for the information about your wife's results on Velcade. I'm glad she's had such a great response. I think the drug is also promising for NHL. Could you give some information about the side effects? I haven't read much about multiple myeloma. Is there any connection with an oncogenic virus? I would think that the most effective use of LDN would be to prevent a relapse. I know at least one NHLer who is using it that way. All the best to you and to your wife. S.
