Question about LDN and Immodium interaction

Hello all:

I have Crohn's and recently decided to try LDN. My symptoms aren't

bad right now, but i'm trying to stop progression of the disease.

I got LDN (1.5MG) from a local compounding pharmacy and was clear

that I needed Avicel as a filler since I am lactose intolerant. I

confirmed this from the pharmacy when i picked it up.

I've tried starting LDN twice now (a single 1.5MG dose) and both

nights I tried it, it caused an extreme laxative effect. I had

extremely intense cramping for 5-6 hours of the night and was in and

out of the bathroom repeatedly. The first time I thought it might

have been a coincidence, but now I know it was the LDN. I never have

symptoms like this with Crohn's (in fact, I'm never up in the middle

of the night at all).

My initial thought is that this could be some kind of interaction

with Immodium (I take 2 in the morning each day). I know Immodium is

an opiate derivative. My thought is maybe the LDN is blocking the

action of the Immodium and causing almost an opposite, laxative

effect.

Anyone have any thoughts on this? I can't seem to find anything

online about Immodium interaction. Quite discouraged -- was hoping

LDN might be the trick but I clearly can't take it with this kind of

side effect.

Thanks.

Yes it is. In the process, they remove the euophroic compounds (so you don't get any high), but leave in the compounds that "slow down" the GI tract which is how it works. What is unclear is whether the compounds that are left would be nullified by the LDN.

Would the LDN be nullified by the Immodium or the other way around, and would taking both together make you ill? I have had an iffy tummy all week, and had taken some immodium and boy oh boy do I feel sick!!

Thanks

Celia

Here's a post that explains what Loperamide is:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/2820051

It is an " opiate agonist. " Since Naltrexone is an opiate antagonist,

it is possible I guess that combining the two could cause the kind of

reaction I had.

Loperamide as all of that other stuff seems ok?

lactose, is this better absorbed?

Yes,

I am quite sure you're right! Good luck now,

trying again. Please, send a post to ask for

advices if you need some, and don't forget to

tell us how you are.
