This>information >> Hello, I know it is very easy to be fooled by these things however this " Virus Warning " in itself is the trick. There is no way opening an E-mail can hurt your hard drive. I have to open E-mails with virus' attached to them every day. The trick here is to have your mail settings set to DO NOT DOWNLOAD PHOTOS OR FILES AUTOMATICALLY That way you can open files until the cows come home and none will infect your hard drive. There is more than one way to terrorize people on line. One of the ways it is done is to send out warnings like these and then to get good folk like Pioneer here to forward them on to their friends thus scaring everyone who is not familiar with E-mail, down loads, viruses, and how they work. So to recap 1. Do not have your settings set to automatically download files or folders 2. do not get worried about this kind " warning " of mail. It is bogus 3. Do not blame the person who sent it to you, they probably didn't know how viri work Pritchard

I do however take care NOT to down load ANY attached files. In fact I go through my incoming mail list and I DELETE ANY MAIL THAT HAS AN ATTACHED FILE. That is what will give you viruses, not this list. PS you are correct that they can be downloaded that is why you do not open mail with attached files. I just did not want anyone thinking it is the list when in reality it is mail with attached files.

If you are not careful and go around downloading everything, and you do get a virus all you have to do is reformat your hard drive, reload in your windows and you are fine. If you were careful and had your Dr. 's or your Norton Antivirus software up and running, and I hope you do now, this would not have happened to you. So go take your old computer out of the closet, reformat the hard drive, reinstall windows, and a good antivirus program and now you will have two good computers. Guest guest
Liz and friends, So many times I have heard viruses can't be downloaded and I can tell you they can. There may be no warning so I think a regular check may be good because one day they might just jam the computor. rheumatic VIRUS WARNING May have sent this twice but wanted to make sure you know: heard IBM has announced new virus Don't open any mail attachments titled " It Takes Guts To Say Jesus " supposed to wipe out your hard disk. I have seen it on a piece of spam I got awhile ago. LizG

Guest guest
Thanks for all the info on viruses, you guys are a goldmine of information. I have ben told and seen on ibm's site that this virus is a hoax. I also saw an attachment with this title on some spam I received last week. So is this a hoax, with the attachments put on to scare people like gullible ol' me. Or is this a blow at bible-belters who are circulating devotional messages with their mail? I for one will never know for I do not intend to open it! I'm not That stupid! But I sure am glad I posted it here because it got me a great free lesson on viruses. You guys are so cool! You can also open it if you have your controls set to ask you before it downloads anything. Attachments are where the virus are so never open an attachment. If it is something someone wants you to see that badly, have them publish it on a web page and send you a link. Then Point your browser at it, (don't use the link and open it) Note you are still taking a chance here so be sure you know what is on that web page and that you trust the person that much to open their page. be ready to pull the plug on the phone if anything starts downloading (Note you pull the plug at the point it comes out of the wall or any where before it enters your computer.) or turn your puter OFF or better do both. Or just don't download stuff or go to strange web sites.

Your Internet access company should also have some kind of control on your mail to allow you to not allow mail with attachments to be opened. On AOL it is under mail controls. Hope this helps. Guest guest
Hi everyone, I apologize, but my computer seems to have come down with a new bug. It's sending everyone who has ever sent me e-mail, or who I have ever e-mailed, unusual e-mails from " " . These e-mails contain bits of information taken somewhere , I believe, from my personal files. I am desperately trying to figure out how to clean this virus off my system, but if you get anything from " " , just delete the message from your system permanently. I am very sorry about this, and I myself have been receiving ample messages from . For those of you who know me well, you know e-mails from me come under the name Debi Rausch . Thanks so much, and so sorry for this!!! Debi
Guest guest
Hello to all, I was sent this virus also. Because of the sender, I opened it. ( the sender's name was from a .edu e-mail) The message in the e-mail says, " I'm sending this file to get your advice " . I can't explain just how it 'works', but IF downloaded, (even to a floppy diskette), once you try to open it, it attaches itself to your computer's ..exe files in Windows. I received info on how to rid your system of this virus. In your browser, type this; McAfee.com - W32/SirCam@MM Help Center then click GO. This will take you to a site that will give you the info to delete the virus from your system. Of coarse, they also sell a CD that will check your system for viruses & delete them for you. The manual delete process is VERY lengthy!!! I hope noone else has fallen prey to this virus. It is one that CAN APPEAR TO BE SENT FROM SOMEONE YOU KNOW!!!!!!! Good wishes to all, , Yada, Yada, Yada. Guest guest
Bill, last night I kept getting multiple email returns stating this mail could not be delivered because ect, ect. They came from addresses that I never sent to. They "ALL" had attachments which I did not open and 3 of the returns said this may be infected with the SIRCAM Virus. I went to a web site that lists hoaxes and also the real viruses and sure enough this virus is for real. Almost half of the returns were like dive912 @ with different addresses such as dive912@... dive912@... ect, ect. For the heck of it I tried http:/www.chicks.com There was a sorry message about the mail boxes that used to be there no long in operation but the website part is still there and it is a website for teenaged girls. Now here is another interesting twist. I set up a email address of dive912@... only for me to use for for PCH entries. He does not even use the computer or have my password. And a lot of my returned mails from other people were using as part of their address dive912. I decided to check on the dive912@... mail box and I found another strange thing. There was a email in that box from cbreeze621@... this is me and my mail email address that I have had over the past 5 years. However, I DID NOT SEND THAT MESSAGE. How could this happen ?? I quickly ran my Norton AntiVirus program and so far so good. I then e mailed Earthlink support but have not heard back yet. Is there any way to prevent this from happening. I deleted half of those messages but still have some in my box in case Earthlink wants me to forward them to them. Of coarse I will not open any of those attachments. I would appreciate information from anyone in the know about this as this has never happened to me before. Guest guest
Don't delete this file! It is supposed to be there. (For details go to http://www.truthorfiction.com/rumors/jdbgmgr.htm) Ben Price PS--if you have deleted it, it is not a big deal. You will only need it if you write Java applications. > This is from my son-in-law, and I did find this virus. I am contacting > everyone in my address book (I clearly need to update it!).
