Guest guest
Like every other parent with a mercury toxic kid, I've wondered where the exposures came from. I knew about thimerosal, amalgams, fish, paint, flourescent lightbulbs, batteries, coal fired plants, etc..... but I didn't know until today about forest fires. We live on the edge of a large forested area, and in the summer of 2001 (a few months before my son was conceived) there was a forest fire large enough to attract national media attention and close enough for talk of evacuation. Based on my highly unscientific observations (and the mommy network), it seems like our small city has a bumper crop of little boys with asd, mostly around 4 years old. http://mining.ubc.ca/faculty/meech/fire4nat.htm Another exposure source for parents to consider.
