Hi ,

Something in your book has been niggling at me. You wrote that pancreatic

enzymes are destroyed by stomach acid unless they are enteric coated. I've

been opening up the capsules and giving my dogs pancreatic enzyme powder for

several years now, AND I've been taking the capsules myself for more than a

year. They are not enterically coated. So I thought, oh great, I've thrown

away a lot of money on these!

So, this weekend I was at the Weston A. Price Foundation's annual Wise

Traditions conference in Chantilly, VA and one of the lectures I attended

was give by one of the well known alternative cancer docs - J.

(http://www.dr-gonzalez.com/treatment.htm). Are you familiar with

his work? Pancreatic enzymes are a foundation of his treatment program and

patients typically take 130-175 capsules a day! His lecture was titled

" Enzymes and Cancer " , by the way. In any case, I told him what you'd written

about pancreatic enzymes being destroyed by stomach acid and asked if it

were true. (I'm sorry, but it didn't quite strike me as right). He

*emphatically* said " no! " , that pancreatic enzymes are *not* destroyed by

stomach acid, and then he rattled off a bunch of citations, but since I

didn't have a notepad I couldn't write any of them down. I figure since

Pancreatic enzymes are a foundation of his program, and since the program

apparently is often very successful, and since he was able to cite several

studies off the top of his head to support his point, then he's probably

right. Note, I didn't mention anything about enteric coating in my question

to him, and I think it was clearly implied that we were discussing

non-enteric coated pancreatic enzymes.

I thought you'd want to know that. :-)
