Now psoriasis, does it ever stop?

I wonder if my poor kid's immune system is ever going to stop plaguing

him. Today I noticed that my 9yo son (PDD-NOS) had a thinning area of

hair on his scalp and upon looking closer discovered a patch of what I

am pretty sure is psoriasis. He has had odd scaly patches of skin

near his eyes for several months that I have been applying coconut oil

to so I am betting that is psoriasis as well. (Stuff I have looked at

online seems to confirm all this) The coconut oil around the eyes has

been controlling it, but not getting rid of it. Trying to figure out

if I should take him to a dermatologist and try to get some of the

vitamin D3 cream that I am reading about or if I should try some

alternative stuff instead. Has anyone else had to deal with this?

Try adding biotin. If his biotin is severely deficient, it can cause

constipation because it pulls magnesium for proper absorption, so be

sure you have magnesium on hand, just in case. I had to give a lot of

magnesium at first, until the biotin deficiency was not so severe.

If vitamin D will help, you can try giving him some as an oral supplement.

Alopecia areata is a stress symptom too, why do you think it is psoriasis?

Peace,

He's not just losing hair. The affected skin on his scalp is a big,

somewhat irregular red splotch with scaly patches of skin on it. My dd

has had an off & on problem with cradle cap/ seborrhea for a long time

and the patches of skin flakes on her head have always been that

typical golden color. The skin flakes on my son's head were pale,

kind of whitish - more like the descriptions of silvery scale that

indicate psoriasis on the scalp.

I think he actually started with it on his face, but I did not

recognize it then. He developed some odd small, slightly red patches

of flaky skin around his eyes several months ago - on the inside

corner of one eyelid and on the outside corner of the other where the

upper & lower lids come together. Initially I had tried an antifungal

cream on them, but it did not seem to do anything at all. I switched

to coconut oil while I tried to figure out what to do. The coconut

oil doesn't make it go away, but at least it appears to have stopped

it from spreading further as it seemed to be trying to do.

I'd be happy to be mistaken - assuming the condition you mention is

milder. Does that form of alopecia fit this description, by chance?

How much should I give to start with? (9yo & just shy of 70lbs)

If he does not have any problems with constipation, does that mean

that he is not biotin deficient so it probably won't work? Or is

there another way to tell? (I am wondering if I should just go

ahead & up his magnesium temporarily at the same time) He has been

complaining about misc. aches & pains the past few days and it is

hard to tell how much is just being manipulative (for ex, he wanted

a certain cereal this morning & started complaining that his stomach

hurt after he was told 'no') and how much is real.

Thanks!

My seborrhea was eliminated with biotin and selenium, both of which

required a lot of magnesium until my deficiencies were improved.

I would start with 500mcg biotin and 100mcg selenium. Keep magnesium

on hand, just in case.

No, it would mean he is not severely deficient, but still might be

" somewhat " deficient.

You can do that. If he has diarrhea, then back down on the magnesium.
