Guest guest
eva, im surprised and saddened that your speech therapist didnt offer you an info on apraxia or encouragement (or at least that is what i surmised from your post). there is a web site/group called " apraxia kids " . it is a monthly newsletter with lots of info on it. also, my son is almost 9 yrs old. he is apraxic. his pvt speech therapist is a specialist in treating apraxia. since we began chelation approx 5 mos ago, my son has said 6 new words (!) all in appropriate context. dont know if you have done or even believe in chelation but there appears to be a connection between lead levels and apraxia. anyway, there is no overnight treatments and your son may have to go thru many years of intensive speech, but, there is hope and my son is living proof! in the meantime, use other modes of communication (PECS, alphasmart, spell board, writing, etc). there are many forms of communication. best to you and your family. vicki
Guest guest
a- If you really can't afford Enzymes, I suggest researching Juicing. Eating Raw foods is great because all the nutrients and enzymes do not get cooked away. But of course for a child, eating the amounts of raw veggies needed would seem impossible. Juicing for your child would put those enzymes and much needed nutrients in them. My mother in law who has digesting issues no longer gets heartburn and she only started juicing once per day recently. You can get juicer that are as cheap at 30 bucks at Walmart. Of course, you can buy them as high as 300 bucks too. And the more expensive ones do have great benefits, but if you just want to get a lower end one to start, it will still give you much of the same benefit. Yes Pineapple is a great fruit to juise because of the enzyme Bromelain which is really helpful for proteins like meats which can be very hard for people to digest. This is the problem for my mother in law. I don't focus a lot on meats for my kids. I do not allow much red meat and as far as chicken and turkey go, he gets two small portions a day, sometimes one. If you are looking for an alternative to actually buying enzymes, I would say juicing is a good bet. It will also help build his immune system and allow his internal organs which have probably been over worked to have a break.. Go out there on the net and check out the info. There is plenty out there. Also, I just posted about the juicer I bought today....pretty good deal if you want to look into it. BJ's had a Juiceman for 42 bucks. I know that even might be more than you have...but that is a one time basic purchase where you might be having to drop 40-50 bucks on enzymes periodically. The amount that I have been using on the houston enzymes has dropped as well. By the way, my DS is 22 months and is not diagnosed autistic, but if you know anything about learning disorders, they all mush into one another. It's all about what specific symptom you are presenting more at the time. For my child it would seem to be apraxia as well. But that could change too, he seems to be going through and shifiting/improving everyday. So yeah defintitely look into the nutrition. It can really make a difference! > > Hi All, > > The sheer volume of e-mails in this group is overwhelming, so > forgive me if I ask questions that have been answered a hundred > times. > > My son who is now 4 1/2 was originally diagnosed with autism at age > 3, but that was soon changed to oral/verbal apraxia -- no autism. > He has some sensory issues, but not disfunction. > > We started him on essential fatty acid supplements and that actually > gave him the ability to speak. Guest guest
> I have noticed that he gets sick more often than my other kiddos, > takes longer to heal, Give vitamin C and vitamin A. At least 500mg vitamin C, and 5000 IU vitamin A per day. >> gets FREEZING cold when no one else is, Check thyroid issues http://www.kroger.com/hn/Concern/Hypothyroidism.htm > prefers bland and easily digested foods (bread, milk, pasta, > mac & cheese, etc), The milk and mac/cheese are not easily digested. Consider giving digestive enzymes http://www.enzymestuff.com/ http://www.houstonni.com/ >>but we > are dirt poor and cannot afford enzymes or special doctors. Call or send email to HNI or whatever other enzyme supplier you would like to consider. Ask for samples, which most of them will send you at little or no charge. If you are in US, you can send me a private email and I can give you other alternatives. Dana
Guest guest
Hi Eva, My son had severe oral and motor apraxia. He was non verbal (he could cry and grunt, could not even make an 'o' sound), could not move his tongue at all and his jaw muscles were so tight it was impossible to brush his teeth. He was diagnosed with severe autism too. He received speech therapy for months without any significant progress. The therapist told me it usually takes years to alleviate the apraxia. Then we started chelation, and I guess we were really lucky because my son started making sounds, then saying words then talking in full sentences. All this in less than 6 months. He still had articulation issues though. But 18 months after he was diagnosed with the severe oral and verbal apraxia, he lost the diagnosis! Today he does not have any speech/language issue, his articulation is great and he is even bilingual. He is almost 5 yo. For us, diet, enzymes, supplements including EPA/DHA did not work but chelation did. I hope you figure out what your child needs. Good luck! > > Hi a or any parent(s) > > My son is 3.5 years old and has no words and he was diagonsis with PDD-NOS last Oct with sensory issues as well. His speech therapist just told me that yesterday he has serve apraxia problem. I never heard of apraxia before and don't know what that is. I asked his speech if there is any medicial treatment for it and she said no. I'm very worry and sad to hear my son has apraxia on top of all other problems he has as well. > > Laruena, you mentioned essential fatty acid supplements help your son to speak. can you share with me what essential fatty acid supplements you give to your son to help him talk? any kind of help is greatly appreciate. > God bless, > Eva
Guest guest
, This is one of the best chelation story I have ever heard. Congratulations. May I ask what chelator(s) and what protocol(s) you used. We are coming to that juncture and I am still trying to stay open and unbiased and consider all the venues.
