Guest guest
dont know what diet your son is on? if not, my son used to do this prior to giving up casein. He breastfed all through the night, basically , ( also getting the casein fix through my milk - from my diet ), hth, if I had known more at the time I would have gone scd and carried on nursing but unfortunately I knew nothing and stopped. But the good news is that he slept through the night after 2 days of giving up and has done ever since. he went through some serious withdrawl during those 2 days- major headbanging etc, but wow to have a full nights sleep was incredible!! for him, and me !! all the best to you, Josie > > I have a son who has a real hard time sleeping through the night. Guest guest
melatonin. It was the only thing that ever helped us. We have used it now for quite some time and bedtime is throughly established. Our daughter is like a clock, she is so regular with her sleep. This was a kid who only slept two out of seven nights when she was 2-3yrs old. debbie crazyaboutryan <crazyaboutryan@...> wrote: I have a son who has a real hard time sleeping through the night. Guest guest
Hi, some people do use 1. Benardryl (diphenihydramin)which is an antihistamine with sedative property.Use sparinghly if your child can tolerate it. 2.you might want to give proteins in the morning and carbohydrate in the evenings 3.Avoid night light exposure so no bedside lamp 4.magnesium sulphate cream or warm epsom sait bath 5.tryptophan as in 5 hydroxy tryptophan (5HTP) - it is a natural precusor for the synthesis of serotonin which is a neurotransmitter that typifies the chemistry of sleep 5omg 5HTP =500mg tryptophan.better given at bedtime with a carbohydrate diet to promote better utilization of the 5HTP.However you do need extra vit B6 with it to avoid kynuric acid 6.Melatonin 7.Herbs like chamomile e.g chamomile tea, milk thistle, valerian and kava kava which has an awful taste. 8. Exercise like swiming, treadmile, biking, running, dancing 9.tryptophan containig foods like beans, you might get other tryptophan containing foods from the internent. All the above i read from books in autism and from this group but i used magnesium cream,no light at night and food high in tryptophan and it did work for me. i hope the above helped , " crazyaboutryan " <crazyaboutryan@...> wrote: > > I have a son who has a real hard time sleeping through the night. Guest guest
With my son melatonin works for a short time then his body must become used to it or something, then it either doesn't put him to sleep or he only sleeps for a couple of hours and we either have to up the dose or keep him off of it for a few days and have him up for a few nights. It might be worth a try though, it may work differently for different people. Not sure how much you would give a two year old though. I have a son who has a real hard time sleeping through the night. Common causes for this problem are phenol intolerance and yeast overgrowth http://www.danasview.net/phenol.htm http://www.danasview.net/yeast.htm He > is 2 so he can not tell me what is going on. If he is having food issues [which can cause reflux], enzymes can help http://www.enzymestuff.com/ Dana
Guest guest
I am new to this group and to enzymes in general. Sleeping has been a big issue in our home for years. Peptidyze and HN-Zyme Prime helped, but what really made a difference was adding No-Fenol to the mix. We will starts Nystatin today and it will be interesting to see the effect. Our DAN physician just put our son on the GFCF diet last week. The first two days were VERY rough, but once he calmed down, he has been sleeping between 10 and 12 hours/night. What bliss! I hope you find some some help - sleep issues are hard on the entire household. Maureen
Guest guest
My sons sleep issues were mostly related to foods. If he woke up screaming it was because of fatty acids absorption problems. Head banging may indicate some ear or sinus pressure problems. Does he eat dairy? Do a trial without and maybe one of wheat too. Basically just start looking at his diet and keep track of the symptoms at night. Melatonin is good for falling asleep but may not keep him asleep is he is uncomfortable (which it sounds like). Guest guest
I HIGHLY recommend Hyland's " Calms Forte 4 Kids. " It's a homeopathic remedy, so NO side effects! It worked GREAT for my son. He was up 3-4 times a night, no complaints about anything, just up. Then he'd be tired and cranky all day. When we gave him this right before bed, he slept through the night and was MUCH better the next day. It's not a cure-all, but it's all natural, and as long as you take it 15 or more minutes away from any herbal remedies you may be on, it should be effective. We call it " rock candy. " It's little pellets you dissolve under the tongue, although, my son just chews them up! It's over the counter at many health stores like Wild Oats or Whole Foods. Or you can go to www.hylands.com. You can also google Hylands and find many places that sell it online. Happy sleeping! -Susie, mom to Corbin ps, they have a Clams Forte for adults too!!
