Guest guest
Hi all, The last few times I have written with questions, I didn't receive any replies at all, so I am hoping someone will reply. We are really in need. My 7 year old son, who has Asperger's and has been GFCF for over two years, recently started enzymes. I thought we did it the right way, starting slowly and such, but I found out he was going into his snack box at school and popping enzymes and eating wheat and dairy like the Titanic was going down and he was on it! He ate a lot more than I though he had. Anyway, within a few weeks he had a type of eye infection that he only used to get before GFCF which responds only to a 4 hour wait in the Opthamologist's office ( or maybe it's the steroid drops they give him.) We went GFCF again, but continued enzymes. And within two weeks of that -- he had a " signature " penumonia -- something he used to get - no joke- twice a year at times. I tried to treat at home for a few days, not wanting to rush in and get antibiotics if it was viral, but I went in yesterday. They did bloodwork and it looks completely fine -- no sign of bacterial infection, but gave me a prescription for zithromax that I could fill if/when I thought he had gone too long. The NP we see knows I am not keen on antibiotics, since my son had been pickled in them for the first five years of his life. Since GCFC two and a half years ago, he has not once been on antibiotics. I treated two ear infections with garlic and mullein oil with success, but other than that - healthier than his classmates and sisters! Here's my question -- he is still just as sick this morning as he has been all weekend. No changes at all. Is starting to lose weight, and he can't spare any. Any tips on giving antibiotics? We worked so had to heal his gut -- I'm afraid to wreck it with a five day z-pack. I have some great probiotics to use, but don't know. I'm figuring that someone out there has a tried-and-true suppliment system for when you have to give antibiotics. Please help. Antibiotics do nothing for viruses, only bacteria. You can ask them for an antiviral prescription if it is viral. Dr McCandless has some of her patients on Valtrax or you can use OTC antiviral agents like Lauricidin or Monolaurine etc. Other option would be adding a transfer facter to improve his immune system. However, if your child has Pneumonia, it would show in the blood test as it is bacterial and treated with very heavy duty antibotics. If that becomes the case, you could go for the shots and not oral to avoid injury to his gut. I use olive leaf extract as anti-bacterial and anti-viral. Try giving that, see if it helps. > Any tips on giving antibiotics? Give lots of probiotics about 2 hours after each dose of antibiotics. Guest guest
Does your son have asthma? My son still battles asthma triggered by allergies...and this time of year, along with early fall, is the worst. A good natural anti-viral is olive leaf extract...that and oil of regano. If this is truely pneumonia, then I would heal that up and worry about the gut later. I know you've worked very hard (and so has he), but you dont mess with pneumonia if that is what is really is and not asthma. Guest guest
For viruses, ViraStop and olive leaf extact work very well. Some doctors use Valtrex. For bacteria, you can give a good probiotic the same days as the antibiotics. I give the antibiotic and probiotic separately during the day. This seems to help better than not giving probiotics at all until the antibiotics are over. When my son had really bad bacteria, we used colloidal silver as an antibiotic...it worked great. I don't know how it compares with the prescription you have thought. My son had serious gut problems and the silver wasn't a problem for him in that way. And giving extra vitamin C or other antioxidants can help as well. .
Guest guest
Hi Dawn, Please see the following link re taking antibiotics. It is a lengthy document, but well worth the read! If you cursor down to about 3/4 down the page, you'll also find a section beginning with : 'If you've decided to go ahead and take an antibiotic' which may answers your question regarding when to take the probiotics too. Here's the link: http://www.mybodylanguage.co.uk/Antibiotics.htm Good luck! > Any tips on giving antibiotics? We worked so had to heal his gut -- I'm > afraid to wreck it with a five day z-pack.
