Guest guest
Suzanne, I think Alpha-Ketoglutaric Acid (AKA) is good for this, though I couldn't tell you much about dosing. Hopefully someone else can chime in here to give you more information. Guest guest
We have the ammonia issue also. Stuff is really nasty, sort of pickles the brain. We use calcium butyrate to scavenge it all up. Works like a charm, and my sons' histamine levels went way down, and his moodiness all but disappeared. Now we use his temperment to gage his health status, can always tell when he's getting sick as his moodiness returns. Elevated ammonia and pyruvate We just got the bloodwork back for my son from our regular pediatrician and all looked fine but it indicated " elevated ammonia and pyruvate " . We have an appointment with the developmental pediatrician next month to explain what this means but I wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this and what has helped. Just to give some background, my son (5 y.o.) was diagnosed with austim last year. He is verbal but significantly delayed (lots of echoing). He has many sensory issues (likes deep pressure, runs into things) and lots of visual stims (looks out the corner of his eyes while flicking fingers). We're justing starting the GFCF diet today actually and I hadn't thought about enzymes or supplements at this time but given his bloodwork, thought it was something I should consider. I know time is of the essence and I already feel I'm behind with my son being five so I didn't want to wait until my appointment next month. Any advice is appreciated! Guest guest
I might have some leads on what to look for - Woody McGinnis MD has spoke about this and is related to Oxidative Stress. Woody sayes Minize toxins, infections, allergens. Support detox metabolism with Vit. b6,b12,folate,magnesium, Zn, selenium, MET..I am not sure what that means? Plenty of anti-oxidant: Vit A,C,E, and reduced Glutathione I have to go to bussiness meeting will try to get you a little more later. He is verbal but significantly delayed (lots of echoing). For my son, echoing was caused by deficiency in B12 and especially folic acid. > lots of visual stims (looks out the corner of his eyes while flicking > fingers). My son needed a LOT of things to address this problem. I wrote about it here http://www.danasview.net/issues.htm Dana
Guest guest
Thank you all for your responses. I have printed out all the emails and will follow-up with my physician on your suggestions. A lot of people have mentioned Alpha-Ketoglutaric Acid so I think we'll start with that first. This is all so overwhelming - I had thought it was going to be as simple as just changing my son's diet (not that that is really " simple " ) but I realize now there is so much more involved. I'm addicted to these boards and the information you provide. Thanks so much!
