They are very rough, get dark patches, even will crack and bleed. In my family, this was caused by EFA deficiency and B vitamin deficiency, especially folic acid. My kids had really dry skin, cracked and bleeding, and daily folic acid at 800mcg has made their skin baby soft and smooth. > I should also note that he is very thin. He has always been in 99th percentile for height, but around 75th percentile for weight. He eats normally--not a picky eater, seems to eat a decent amount of food for his age. I have one child like this. He has required several supplements and interventions to improve with this problem. Are you using enzymes? That is probably a good first step, in addition to the things mentioned above. Dana

My son feels it is helping, but I can tell it will be some time before we see lasting results. > I should also note that he is very thin. Are you using enzymes? That is probably a good first step, in addition to the things mentioned above. We used enzymes for two years, but he doesn't seem to need them anymore. I did not realize he might need them for weight. Today was the first day he seemed very eager to eat--he didn't want to wait till my husband got home. I'm not sure if the B-complex is doing anything about that. Also, can fish oil cause aggression? I re-started giving him this, upping the amount, and he had a big anger fit this morning. This seems to happen every time I start trying to use it. CLO does not seem to be as bad.

My son feels it is helping, but I can tell it will be some time before we see lasting results. You can increase the folic acid if you want. Two of my kids were actually on a much higher dose than 800mcg. Watch for yeast tho, B vitamins including folic acid tend to increase yeast. > We used enzymes for two years, but he doesn't seem to need them anymore. I'm not sure if the B-complex is doing anything about that. For my #2, when he had a yeast overgrowth, he would eat all the time. So it might be yeast for your child, altho it might just be an overall better feeling that he has, which makes him want to eat. Just watch for yeast symptoms. > Also, can fish oil cause aggression? My #2 became VERY angry and aggressive with any EFAs, especially fish oil. It was caused by mitochondrial dysfunction for him, and required a lot of supplements before it was corrected. However, correcting the problem for him was VERY beneficial. I wrote what he needed here http://www.danasview.net/mar05.htm Dana
Guest guest
Dana, How do you pre-load with EPO before giving fish oil? Not sure what that means. Is emulsified CLO better than plain fish oil? This (CLO) is what I had been giving him, and it was not causing aggression. Thank you for your information. Based on what I read just at the link you sent, this must have been/is a full-time job for you!
Guest guest
> Dana, > How do you pre-load with EPO before giving fish oil? Not sure what that means. I had to give EPO for 5 weeks before I could add any other EFA. EPO is Omega 6 only. After my son was loaded with Omega 6, I went to flax oil, which is Omega 3, 6, and 9. He needed that for several months before he tolerated fish oil, which is primarily Omega 3. Then I gave him fish oil for several month, which was very helpful, primarily for behaviors but somewhat for language also. >> Is emulsified CLO better than plain fish oil? This (CLO) is what I had been giving him, and it was not causing aggression. What is in this CLO that makes it " emulsified " ? I have not heard of that. Guest guest
It is Twinlab's Emulsified Norwegian Cod Liver Oil. The bottle says, " Our product is emulsified with natural soy lecithin and apple pectin, making the EPA and DHA more readily available to the digestive system for better absorption, assimilation and utilization. " There isn't any information to tell you how much lecithin and pectin are in it. danasview <danasview@...> wrote: What is in this CLO that makes it " emulsified " ? I have not heard of that. " Interesting. Most people complain that the soy causes problems for their kids. But perhaps your child needs this? But if it is working, you should definitely consider keeping it.
