Hi Laurie,

I am not an expert at this. My son was primarily breastfed though I

occasionally supplemented with soy formula. Later I read at Dr. Mercola site

about the high aluminum in soy formulas which actually is very toxic as well.

It may be really worth it to look into organic baby formula if there is such

thing.

Also I know that you need to make sure your daugter gets good amount of

antioxidents. Vitamin C and E are important but check with a doctor or a

naturapath for dosage because supplementing a baby is tricky.

In an email correspondence recently Dr. Boyd Haley (expert chemist on mercury)

wrote of the importance of selenium preventing toxic effects of mercury. Off

course high dose selenium is also toxic and you need to check with a

biomedically educated health practitioner. Brazil nuts are loaded with

selenium and maybe a little tiny amount of it can be grounded in her baby food

every few days and that is of course after she is old enough to be on baby

food. I think it is safe to put a pinch of good quality probiotic in her

formula even now. Probiotics are wonderful for protecting the gut. Also I

would introduce tiny amount of enzyme(AFP Peptizide by HNI) as well. Since

your older son is ASD, it maybe an indication that your family genetically may

be low on Glutathione. Kirkman Lab sells a glutathione cream you can put on

her body. Good for your son too. Our whole family is on glutathione after my

son's genetic test revealed he has very low glutathione production. His doctor

went as far as saying that had we had known his impaired glutathione

production, he most likely wouldn't have autism.

Signs of genetic low glutathione are history of mental illness or alcoholism

in family as well as history of auto immune disorders including Autism.

Glutathione orally can increase yeast so for a baby, transdermal is IMO a

better option.

Good luck,

Haleh

Laurie,

Please, PLEASE take your baby off soy right away!!! Soybeans contain

enzyme inhibitors that block the action of trypsin and other enzymes

needed for protein digestion. They can cause serious gastric

distress, inhibit protein digestion and cause chronic deficiencies in

amino acid uptake. Trypsin inhibitors can cause enlargement of and

dysfunction of the pancreas, including cancer. Soybeans also contain

haemagglutinin that causes red blood cells to clump together, forming

clots. Trypsin inhibitors and haemagglutinin are also growth

inhibitors. Babies who are exclusively fed soy formula receives the

estrogenic equivalent (based on body weight) of at least five birth

control pills per day! YIKES! Soy-based formula can cause also

cause thyroid problems in babies. Soy is one of the most heinous

foods on the planet and should never be given to babies and children.

I would recommend the book by Cave, What your Doctor may not tell you

about vaccinations. Also the book Enzymes for Autism by the moderator of this

group. Good Books both of them, although I find Cave's book to be out

of date. Anyone else read about the work the M.I.N.D. institute has done

regarding our little munchkins? Turns out they've found a couple of things we've

been looking for. We might be steps away from a diagnostic test for Autism.

Their " blood spot study " compared the stored newborn blood spots of children who

later received the diagnosis of Autism and those that developed neurotypically.

They found that 4 of the proteins were elevated in children who were later

diagnosed autistic. They're now trying to confirm the results, and of course the

equipment and tests are time consuming and difficult. The differences are there

though. I intend to contact them tomorrow, today is a holiday, and find out how

I go about getting tested. She's not vaccinated, and I don't care how much

I have to pay or what I have to do, I want to know if she and ph have these

differences. Plus a separate study that was conducted by this institute did

narrow the whole vaccine issue down to the MMR and the DTaP by examining the

IgG, IgM and IgA levels in autistic kids and control groups. The problem occurs

when they try to get controls that are age-matched. Seems that when the time

between the vaccination and the analysis is taken into account, the differences

disappear. So of course in addition to collecting this data, the interpretation

of the results counts for a great deal. I'm excited though that they are able to

say there is a correlation between autism and the immune system ( and of course

the gut, as 60% of the immune system is located in the gut). I'm sick and tired

of being considered a nut because I think by treating ph's immune and

intestinal issues I'll alleviate the autistic behaviors, never mind this is

playing out daily as the OCD and drooling, etc. etc. is gone. And Thank God it's

finally with scientific merit I can say some kids are more susceptible to damage

from vaccines. May not know the specific gene, or chromosome structure or

defect, may not know if it was something I did to him or a matter of genetic

odds, but there is a difference, and that Hep B shot they gave him at birth darn

well did some damage. Of course it's also interesting that Norway's autism rates

which mirrored our rates, declined to 1 in 1500 after Thimerisol was removed,

and we are for the first time not seeing in an increase in autistic kids

entering pre-school, the rate is level, if not decreased in some areas of

enrollment. If you take into account the fact that after the Thimerisol was

" supposed " to be removed from most vaccines, plus the shelf life the vaccines

already existing with thimerisol had (Doctors were allowed to use up their

vaccines with thimerisol, rather than dispose of them), and it was estimated it

would be a couple of years before all those vaccines were used up. So here we

are, 5 years later, you give it 2 years to use them up, and 3 years for those

infants with thimerisol free vaccines to hit pre-school age. My Mom always said,

" the truth always comes out " .

Questions about our other " normal " kids

I am new at this. Our 2 year old got a diagnosis last Thursday, but

we had suspected and I had been reading tons for a month or so.

I have some questions about my other kids, particularly my baby.

She is 4 months old and unfortunately has had 2 Hepatitis B shots, a

DTP, Prevnar, IPV and HIB. She has never had more than 2 at once,

but now I am worried. I have decided against further vaccinations

for any of the kids, but wondered what I can do to help prevent this

if possible in the baby. Can I give her any supplements this young?

I did take her off milk formula and put her on soy, but I am still

worried. I am totally using filtered water to cook and everything-

sorry I was oblivious before. I am so carefully watching for

milestones and just stressing. She is not holding her head up " well "

yet, so I am concerned about that. Anyway, any suggestions would

help.

Also son #1 is 3 1/2 and a mess. He started out with horrible colic

for months until on my own I put him on soy, which he remained on

until over 1. He has had chronic constipation, even with impactions

as a baby. He is a TERRIBLE eater. He wants nothing but starch and

sugar and this has gotten worse and some days he eats almost

nothing. He is pale with dark circles and sometimes complains about

his tummy hurting. I was thinkg yeast, but I would appreciate any

other suggestions as he really concerns me with his health.

Thank you so much for offering any help and experience. We are

preparing to go SCD too.

Tou may want to try an organic milk based formula with a small pinch of HNI

AFP Peptizide enzyme which helps with proper digestion of dairy.

Hi Laurie,

I completely understand about nursing problems, but I must stress

that in light of your concerns for your child, you should finds a

source of good quality breast milk. I have a friend who gave birth a

few months after I did, and her baby was a preemie and very sick.

She had trouble nursing and eventually gave up. Luckily, I produced

enough breast milk for an army and I pumped for her son. He thrived

and grew better than anyone could have predicted, and is doing great

today. Now, if you are not fortunate to know any nursing moms who

can spare milk, then perhaps consider a milk bank. Here is a link:

http://www.hmbana.org/

I would also second Haleh's suggestion of the addition of enzymes.

Good luck!

Hi:

If you've only been at this a month it sounds like you have managed to

digest (no pun intended) a lot. And with 3 kids to keep you busy this is no

small feat!

You may already know about the following but just in case - If you havent

read de Felice's book " Enzymes for Autism and Other Neurological

Conditions " (and her website www.enzymestuff.com

<http://www.enzymestuff.com/> ) I would go ahead and do that. Also Dr.

McCandless' book " Children with Starving Brains " (and if you purchase it

from her website you get an invitation to join her listserve). Also check

out the DAN webcasts in your spare time (ha!)

For kids #1 and #2 I would recommend digestive enzymes to start with. Also

I would like to concur with everything Haleh said about antioxidants.

When it comes to the baby - this is a tough one if you have stopped nursing

already and don't think you can/or want to build your supply back up. Like

, I was able to nip some problems in the bud with 2nd child by taking

digestive enzymes for nursing and also doing some gut clean up on myself.

The advice you got to quit the soy formula is solid advice. It is also true

that all commercial formulas have some casein in them - and I believe this

is true of the soy ones as well if you look closely (most avoid lactose).

If I were going to try to stick with commercial formula I would probably try

Nutrimagen. If it looks like she doesn't tolerate that, I would ask my

doctor for a prescription for Neocate. It is an EXTREMELY expensive

prescription formula but many insurance plans will pay for it. It does not

contain casein (and why you need a prescription to find a formula that

doesn't contain casein is anyone's guess. Growl). Some doctors (for example

some DANS) will help you create homemade formulas (We see Dr. Cave and she

told us she made one for one of her grandkids); and I recall awhile back

when I used to frequent GFCFKids Group there were moms out there

making their own (CF) formula and there would likely be people on that board

who could point you in a good direction.

Hang in there!

I use Carnation Good Start with enzymes, 1/4 cap of all three, with my daughter.

I have been doing this for about 10 months? and it has been great. She is 17 mo

old now and when we started she spit up all the time, not exaggerating. We

started the enzymes and that stopped by the end of the day. She also was just

happier and slept through the night very soon after. I was ecstatic as neither

of my boys did that until after they were a year old!

What about Pediasure that has soy oil in it? Same thing as above?

Antioxidants are good, especially vitamin C.

Dark circles is commonly food intolerance, especially milk and phenols

http://www.danasview.net/phenol.htm

Pale skin can be metal toxicity, food intolerance, amino acid

deficiency, or other issues.
