Guest guest
I read the whole thing; what amazes me is that the teacher did this herself, without being told to first, etc. Our guidance counselor talks to my son's classroom EACH and every single year (I don't even have to any more at our new school!) and tells the children he has what is called Asperger's and that is does do things sometimes that we may feel are different than us, and some of the things that Derrick (our son) does. This is 'normal' for Derrick, and not to make fun of him but remind him to (not suck on his shirt but use something appropriate, etc.); seriously; everyone fights over him; kiddo has friends, plays in our neighborhood, but we have gotten him help since he was 4 now, and he just turned 7. For most part, he is 'normal' in the classroom; if he is NOT, we have said WE WILL BE getting services / IEP, etc. He is on target and advancing normally now!!! So, he is a success story, provided he is medicated for anxiety and ADHD (otherwise, he cannot sit, listen, keep from melting down, tongue in his mouth, etc.). For anyone to do anything rude and other than SUPPORT him and the class at all times is crazy to me; I see both sides and what the teacher was TRYING to do, if that is the truth about what happened; I do question WHY she was doing this at all, then having students vote to have him back in NOW or not; I bring my son late to school or take him for therapy, I sure don't expect a vote on whether my arrival / return time is okay with the class OR NOT!!! Guest guest
Well, if a week old is OLD news, then it is OLD. The report just got completed a couple days ago!!! Anyway, the teacher has been 'moved' at this time; she is NOT in that classroom but it is unclear what else at this time; that was the last I personally have heard and researched. This is still 'making news' with the reports, and my husband said our local radio station just discussed it on Thursday in their morning show, this Thursday, so for old news, it is very current in the public!! Guest guest
Ruthie, Off topic, I also agree, it helps when the class or other kids know about a child having a disability. No matter what the dx is. they seem to accept the child more knowing why they act like they do. [different]. at least that is how it is for us... Our school thought it was wrong for my son to let others know he has AS. But most of the kids try to help him. like he forgets things and before he gets off the school bus, they will remind him - you know we have band practice tomorrow. don't forget to go to the band classroom. I don't know why our school feels it should be kept private. its like telling my son - something is wrong with him. Well too late anyway, everybody knows. LOL except the school. they still think all the specialist that specialize in autism is wrong. {{{{ don't I only wish }}}}} Rose.BRYAN DOLEZAL <DOLEZAL123@...> wrote: I read the whole thing; what amazes me is that the teacher did this herself, without being told to first, etc. Our guidance counselor talks to my son's classroom EACH and every single year (I don't even have to any more at our new school!) and tells the children he has what is called Asperger's and that is does do things sometimes that we may feel are different than us, and some of the things that Derrick (our son) does. Guest guest
One of my best friends here where we live has a permanent internal disability now. Long story short, 's tutor; she WAS a teacher for eight years, injuried on a 6th grade roller skating field trip, and the school refused to allow anything suggested, so by the time she privately did what needed done, it was too late, so she is insane amounts of pain, day in, day out; sometimes so bad, she cannot get out of bed, literally. She is an amazing person, and she does everything to make it the best she can. What she hates is that everyone thinks and acts like she is faking it, 'cuz it is a hidden disability; you cannot look at her (other than to know her and know she is sick today----pale, about to pass out due to pain, etc.) and say, oh, she has a disability. And, people treat her like she is a hypocondriac or something, when, in reality, she is livid she is like this; she worked 80-100 hours a week teaching, had a summer job, volunteers, does church things, is a wife, mother of two (her baby just graduated high school Sunday), etc. But, truth is, she is still working, but on her recovery now. She just refusses to give up (and I refuse to let her---doctors are telling her to, now)------but, it helps the pain; she swims four days a week, walks 2-4 miles a day, etc.; all these things help her pain levels; she has herself completely off pain meds for a 'vacation' from them, so she hurts all the time; some days she cannot climb up a set or two for that matter of stairs. SHE IS NOW DISABLED. I think we need to start treating AS like this; people cannot always see it when you SEE the kiddo, but it is REAL, and a disability. Guest guest
I agree, and hope that is the 'point' as that is what I was trying to say................my friend is great, and, she helps advocate for , too; she tried to help us at the school; she even taught there before tutoring him; they would not even listen to her; her husband is a guidance counselor (becoming one) but teaches now, so she really helped us behind the scenes, too. Actually, she is the reason we home school ; she talked us in to checking it out, considering it, finding something that worked for him; and she is why we moved to n; she suggested it; we got a pre-approval for financing the next day, and within 3 days, offered on the house we now live it; I think I see her LESS now than when I was further away but that is 'cuz we are soooo busy.
