What I do often with my 6 1/2 year old is role play; I 'use' a child from my daycare about his age (with THEIR known permission first), and we practice; literally; he is clueless, and repeats after me; he does not know how to do it, so we are using this method to teach him. From, 'would you like to play' to 'what ideas do you have' and 'we are going to do your plan' as he, obviously, only thinks his way is the only way and one one (aspies, right???). Anyway, that is something I have been doing; you could do this same thing anywhere including play at Mc's play areas with a stranger. I did this when my 14 year old was little, I just did not know why I was doing it but we did it at Mc's all the time; we were pooooooorrrr, so I would play with him endless hours there (and we ate before we went!).....so, those are a couple of ideas. Remember to use all the steps (as they really may not know or have any idea how to play nice or appropriate)....Ruthie

My son just had a play date with a wonderful child from his class. Although it went very well, especially by our standards :), there were a number of issues that I needed to continually address. One example--When the friend left, I told my son that before we have another play date, we'll have to discuss which video games are OK to play. I said this because my son kept selecting games that could only be played by one player at a time. I had to keep getting involved to get him to select a different game so that both the boys could play together.Anyway, it got me thinking...I wonder if a list of play date rules already exists? Or, has anyone come across a good social story that addresses play dates?BTW--my son is 10 years old. Thanks for your input,Natasha

Natasha, I'm still surprised with "playdates." when I was younger, we all just went outside and played with each other. 'playdate' was never heard of. so, I'm still getting used to that. or is playdates only in Rural areas?. Not in the large cities?. What if your son, when using the video game for only one player - when he gets out - has to give his friend a turn, until he gets out?. they it will go back and forth. if he's really good and never gets out, then explain he still has to give his friend a try. My son is also 10 and I have to also let him know to give his friend a turn. most of the times, the kids he plays with will tell him "it's my turn now''. but he had to be taught that, to share, to get to this point. and still needs reminding. your doing the same thing I would have to do with my son. after a while, it will be a very short, quick,
