§89.1045. Notice to Parents for Admission, Review, and

Dismissal (ARD) Committee Meetings.

(a) A district shall invite the parents and adult

student to participate as members of the admission,

review, and dismissal (ARD) committee by providing

written notice in accordance with 34 Code of Federal

Regulations (CFR), §§300.345, 300.503, and 300.505,

and Part 300, Appendix A.

(B) A parent may request an ARD committee meeting at

any mutually agreeable time to address specific

concerns about his or her child's special education

services. The school district must respond to the

parent's request either by holding the requested

meeting or by requesting assistance through the Texas

Education Agency's mediation process. The district

should inform parents of the functions of the ARD

committee and the circumstances or types of problems

for which requesting an ARD committee meeting would be

appropriate.

That is what I found as well --- but I do not see any " written " (within 5 days,

10 days, etc.,) time frame for when that has to happen. Like when schools drag

their heels on scheduling an ARD at the request of the parents.

Thank you...

There is none. You might want to look at case law!

Hi Carol. I'm from Texas too with a 14yo son with Asperger. What

you'll get varies greatly in Texas based on what school district you

are in and what your son's symptoms are.

Hi, Carol

What's an ARD? A plan for the school year, like our IEP, here in Michigan? Our daughter is in middle school, too, and we have struggled with the social skills for 3 years...We got social worker service for her in 4thgrade because her peer dynamics were so poor. You may try that route. She still sees the SW in middle school too and has made improvement in peer interactions. The SW sees in small group with other peers, not necessarily in spec ed, but who are good with peer relationships and it has worked out well. This year SW calls it "girls group" and they discuss relevant issues, whatever may come up. enjoys it!

Has anyone included specific social accommodations in their child's ARD? My son is in middle school and really needs help building appropriate social relationships and interacting with peers. He has speech that helps with social skills but he needs more hands on constant assistance. Being in middle school, this is a huge issue and will only get more challenging to navigate as he gets older. His ARD is approaching in a few weeks and just wanted to know if anyone else has been able to get some solid assistance in school with this problem.thanks!carol

Yes, you can definitely put social goals in the IEP! We've done it as well. I have a website handy with social goals listed for some ideas as well --> http://www.speakingofspeech.com/IEP_Goal_Bank.html#Social_Skills
