When the kids started bullying my kid and he flipped out on them..we had a meeting and it was rule a Manifestation of his Disability...and then we got him on a Smaller Bus...much better....only 4 kids on it...no noise and no teasing!

Ask them for a smaller bus....

Well just when I thought we had a good plan finally working I get a call from the school transportation director. It seems that my son (almost 5 years old and in preschool) was screaming on the bus. The last time that they had trouble with him screaming, it was because the kids were bullying him. So they then created a seating chart and things started working out. Yesterday, he was screaming and so the bus driver confronted him and my son started spitting and kicking at the bus driver. Now he is suspended from the bus for 2 weeks.I asked him after school why he was screaming and he said that the other kids were being too loud and hurting his ears and so he was trying to get them to be quiet. After talking with him what he needs to do next time that this happens, I explained that he would not be able to ride the bus for a while because of his behavior. He rides the Head Start bus everyday

also but does not have trouble on that bus. I have talked with the special ed director about the situation and she is going to try to work with us to find the best solution.Sorry but I just needed to vent some.Helen

Ask to have him put on the special ed bus. Sounds like he needs less noise and people to deal with. Also, I would argue about the suspension too. He has a communication disability. You don't "confront" a 5 yo who is having a meltdown. Well, I guess you can. I just wouldn't recommend that attitude.

One time my ds was in trouble for screaming on the bus. He was in middle school and he was screaming and "refused" to stop. Turned out that the seat mate was smashing his head into the window. The driver knew it but as he explained patiently to me, "I can't have him screaming like that." It was classic - blame the kid screaming for his dear life instead of the one administering the pain. Anyway, we asked and got him sped transportation and he did fine for several years on that

The only problem is that we are in a very small rural school district

and my son is only in part day preschool. Since he is in the

afternoon session of preschool, he has one bus driver that picks him

up (which is the one who has all the troubles) and then one that

brings him home. I have already talked with the bus driver that he

will have next year, and he looks forward to having my son ride his

bus then. He is a father of special needs children, and also worked

with my autistic sister when she was in school. I just remember to

take one day at a time.
