First, I want to thank everyone who offered advice on talking to our

son about his diagnosis. We ordered " All Cats Have Aspergers " , which

came in yesterday, and we read to him last night. He loved the book so

much that when we were done reading it he got up and immediately went

in to his super-excited stimming response, which is jumping up and down

and winding his arms around. That is a sure sign that he loved it!! He

really didn't have too many questions, and actually wanted to talk more

about Greek mythology than AS. (I guess this to be expected with AS :)

However, after talking and reading, he now wants to say the

word " Aspergers " over and over again. I know this is kind of his way

with dealing, but I'm afraid this might become a problem at school in

the coming days. Has anyone else had a similar situation or does anyone

have advice about how to approach this? I can just see this turning in

to an unfavorable social thing...i.e. nicknames, teasing, etc. It

already happened at the bus stop this morning when he told the kids

there that he has Aspergers, and one of them said " You mean like a

donkey? " ...(Laughter following by all)...and I jumped in and explained

what it meant. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Karin
