Guest guest
The school has to conduct "exit evaluations" before dismissing your child from special education services. Parent can certainly request evaluation/testing at any time. If the school district wants to refuse the testing they can do so but make sure you ask for their refusal and reasons why in writing. Guest guest
Good morning, My husband and I attended our son's ARD yesterday and it was a mess. They had seven people in there besides my husband and I. They suspected it wouldn't go easy so I guess they figured the more big wigs the better. The meeting was intense and lasted almost two hours. Bottom line, my son doesn't qualify for services any longer. They read his report from the neurologist demanding that he get support and the areas he was weak in .....but the school said that his testing was way to basic and not something they could USE. At that point I then formally requested testing for my son.......they told me it would do NO GOOD. That even if they tested him he would NOT qualify for services. That the best thing to do is to put him in kindergarden next fall and when he begins to fall behind they would THEN provide services for him. NONE of this makes any sense to us. We tabled our discussion at that point so we could read or try and find some answers. They did inform me at that point that it was not the LAW to test every child that had a parent demanding IT. and they would call me with their reasons not to test him! They also mentioned in the meeting they had many other students who were in much more need than my son! bottom line I think we are falling through the cracks due to lack of funding...... any advice at all???? Also, his current teacher says he meets requirements and all goals so he is dismissed. I asked her for her data, due to the fact I FIND that hard to believe. she assured me she had data........but never produced it! what next?? thanks for any support!! I am just lost! and tired!
