Guest guest
Hi Debra, No, we haven't tried fish oil. My friend has tried it with her ds who has severe autism. I never noticed a difference in behavior in him at all as I was his home tutor and spent hours at a time with him. She did say it helped with his potty issues somewhat. But I don't know if she felt it was a great improvement or a small improvement. We usually discussed major improvements in anything so I doubt it was major. RoxannaYou're UniqueJust like everyone else... ( ) fish oil - what is Roxanna's experience? Roxanna, Have you ever tried Fish Oil with your kids? I would be interested in your results or impression. There is good literature on use with disruptive behavioral disorders but I have been afraid to try them, for fear of potential unknown long term side effects. But, after 13 years we have maxed out all other med options and would love one more thing to maybe tone down behaviors another 10 percent or so if possible...... Guest guest
Hi Debra, I found medline plus helpful in researching about fish oil. http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/natural/patient-fishoil.html They look at many studies and give them a letter grade. The ADHD or impulsivity studies with fish oil got a grade of C. I take the costco fish oil pills for my blood pressure and they give it an A for blood pressure improvement. At work, a lot of patients are on them for their triglycerides and in many cases it does lower them. Medline says the studies don't support using it for general cholesterol reduction though. The vet recommended them for my dog's skin condition too. Just in case anyone is thinking about the gummy fish, my kids thought they were disgusting! Costco took them back though. > > Roxanna, > Have you ever tried Fish Oil with your kids? I would be interested in your results or impression. You might want to try different brands, as the tastes differ. My kids eat the ones I got. They are Vitafusion Omega 3 with DHA for adults. They aren't fish-shaped, but shaped like gumdrops and are berry-flavored, covered with sucrose-based " sugar " . The dose is the same as you give a child, although my kids are 14 anyway (twins). My kids actually enjoy taking their gummy vitamins. It's worth shopping around. All the gummy vitamins for kids I've ever seen don't have nearly as many vitamins in them as regular vitamins for kids. Guest guest
My kids love the gummy fish from Costco. "Over-optimism is waiting for you ship to come in when you haven't sent one out."
