Guest guest
Thanks for the suggestion...but with the school taxes we pay...they should have extra books....and with the economy the way it is ...what about families that can't afford to? My son just came home with a list of stuff he needed for art...most we could buy was cheap...but on the list it said Portfolio? My husband looked and saw portfolios starting at $13.00. My son takes art for 35 days....seems a bit much to me...so I am gong to email the teacher.... Jan Jan Rushen Smile because it is contagious!!!! From: Tonya <bis150miller@...>Subject: ( ) Kids Forgetting to bring home their school textbooks? Date: Wednesday, October 29, 2008, 2:07 PM Greetings Everyone,I read recent posts about the school not having enough textbooks to share them with families of Aspie children so that the child has the book when it is forgotten. I wanted to offer my suggestion that has worked well for my child. I purchase the school textbooks used from www.amazon.com. I visit the school and see which subjects have textbooks that will be required to come home or wait for the child to bring them home), then I write down the ISBN number and order the textbook from online. I spent about $35 on 5 textbooks last year and about $40 for 4 of them this year. However, the time savings from having to drive to the school to get them, the time savings from having to 'talk' with my child on how they could have forgotten their book AGAIN, the gas savings, the self-esteem savings, the sanity savings (mine), the saving of my child's back from not having to lug those textbooks back and forth to school are all excellent reasons well worth the cost of the textbooks. :-) Plus each year after my child has passed the course, I pass the textbooks on to other families that I know with children a year behind mine.Just wanted to share.PS. I read this group's comments but have never posted. I have a 14yo DD who was dx with ADHD in 3rd Grade and most recently we are pursuing evaluation/testing for Asperger. I also have a DS who is 7yo dx with ADHD at 4yo who I am considering having evaluated for Asperger, since the more I learn about it, the more I see how it could be the root to both of my children's issue. I also have a 6yo DS who appears 'normal', not that anyone is normal anymore, but he doesn't display the same 'concerns' as the other two. **smile** If it wasn't for the youngest's 'normal' actions, I wouldn't know that there were any concerns with the other two. Instead, I would just think that was the way children were. **smile**~ Tonya

My kids' school gives each student a second set of textbooks to keep at home, except math (public jr high school). However, in any case, all their textbooks can be accessed online. So, if you are having this problem, make sure your child couldn't be accessing the textbook online. I think I would even contact the publisher myself in case the school doesn't know about this option. Ruth
Guest guest
Yeah, great idea! My ds who e-schools has most of his books online this year. It would be a great idea to be able to access books online for kids who forget to bring them home. If they are out of textbooks, you can suggest an online one.
