Guest guest
My son is receiving SSI. Just go to the SS office and request an application. You will have forms to fill out along with the school. They will set up an appointment for you and will want all doctors names. ( ) Wisconsin and SSI for AS? Has anyone in this state received SSI? How did you get it? I'm not sure how to do this. Thanks!
Guest guest
Contact your local SS office. You will probably have to make an appointment for either a face to face interview or phone interview. Be prepared to have every and all evaluations and paperwork (including IEP, etc) ready. Guest guest
Do you also receive the Waiver and/or Beckett? We were denied these (was told it was all social issues as reason for denial), so I'm worried about even trying to apply for SSI. And there's no school info I can give them. > > My son is receiving SSI. Just go to the SS office and request an application. You will have forms to fill out along with the school. Guest guest
Thanks for your reply! :-) I've been to the SSI site but was asking for specifics in my state because each state does approvals and denials their own way. Some acknowledge AS as being a disablity for SSI and some don't. I just wondered if people here were able to get it before I put blood, sweat, and tears into yet more paperwork. ykwim? I've been told by the people (psychologists) who will write the diagnostic reports to send to SSI that I'd have a better chance if the Dx wasn't AS and was something like ADHD. ARGH! This is all so frustrating!!! > Has anyone in this state received SSI? How did you get it? Guest guest
I would pursue it with all I had. I don't know about your state but here in Ohio if you are turned down the first time and eventually get approved, they have to give benefits starting from when you first applied. Guest guest
My sons case is a bit different. He was on medicaid because neither biological parent was in the home and our adoption wasn't final yet then he was approved for medicaid due to being on SSI which makes him automatically eligible for medicaid. Check out this link and see if it may be useful to you. http://www.dhfs.state.wi.us/guide/pay/wigov.htm . Keep trying for the SSI. Guest guest
This is a GREAT website with lots of state specific information on getting SSI. http://www.disabilitysecrets.com/ Good luck, from what I understand it is not easy. Sue Lowery I would pursue it with all I had. Guest guest
Thank you to all who have replied! That was really nice of you. I do like the websites and offices you've pointed me to. :-) Those of you who have gone through the process here in WI...what was it like? How long did it take? If your child was in school without an IEP, were you approved or denied? Does that matter? Thanks again! > > Has anyone in this state received SSI? How did you get it?
