Guest guest
=) Congrats to the proud mom and new driver =) Sandy. From: <@...>Subject: ( ) Driver's license! Date: Monday, December 22, 2008, 1:30 PM My 19 yr old (20 in January) got his driver's license today!! Yes, I'm still concerned about his driving. He tries to take some turns too fast (not slowing down enough) and I correct him, or goes a little too far before beginning turning. But some he takes just perfect. And I worry about possible new "situations" happening and his having to make decisions. Luckily where we live there are some low-traffic, rural type roads that he'll be driving 10 miles to get to college classes when they start back up next month. And since I work across the street from college, I did say we might still take 1 car (like we've been doing) if bad weather/roads, etc. But I'm soooooo proud of him today!! single mom, 3 sons , 19, with OCD, dysgraphia and HFA/Aspergers PS - and boy did my car insurance shoot up in $$$

Guest guest
i started learning to drive this year. I am now 19. for each person is different. NIH (National Institutes of Health) did a study, (as I learned from my in-classroom dirving instructor) that teen boys are more likely to drive carefully if a lady is in the passenger seat and that the pre-frontal cortex of the brain (responsible for judgment and risk-taking) does not fully develop until mid 20s.Sincerely, A. Guest guest
Congratulations!! This is one area that I know will be important to my little car enthusiast - he is currently going on 13 so we have time yet before we need to work on the skill, but it something he will want to do very much. I inquired at our local registry whether he might be able to have assistance with the 'written' (these days, computer) test and they said as long as he has a doctor's note indicating that there is a deficit in that area. Where I live, the learner's age is 14!!!! I believe it is the youngest in Canada and probably due to it being more of a farmer's land where kids often help out on parents' land. Our other son got his learner's the day he turned 14, but he was definitely ready and well-studied for it. With his brother, we'll need to take a LOT more time and caution before introducing this skill. > > Yipeee!! A milestone! Guest guest
Thank you all!! I sent him to the store for something a couple days ago (not far from house). I want to try to ride with him some in the next couple weeks before he returns to school in January. With all sons home for Christmas, I haven't had time to go with him. And then my brother (a couple hours away) keeps delaying what day he's coming; first it was Christmas, then today but *might* be Saturday.... I told another son I want them to go out, try the route to 's school, and he keeps commenting " you want to kill me?? " Sigh! I told him " no " but I thought he'd have more confidence in his twin than I did. Which I think he will do okay (cross fingers!) but AFTER more practice in his car. > > Congratulations!! Guest guest
Good luck ! Let us know how it's going. Where we live traffic can be bad/heavy but we're a small city and not so many exits to take and merges, etc., when driving. I'd be much more worried, I'm sure, if we lived elsewhere. But that's also just part of being a parent. > > i started learning to drive this year. I am now 19. for each person is different.
